My daughter was an A-B student at UCLA. She was given Zoloft for depression during her second year there. This was immediately followed by a decline in her grades. She also started exhibiting bad judgment, lack of common sense. There seemed to be some kind of disconnect in her reasoning and thinking. The following year her grades continued to decline and she was additionally given Adderal for Attention deficit disorder. Then her grades plummeted. She ended up taking one course her last semester there and flunking it. Then she came home. Her judgment had continued to decline and she did some really outrageous things . I didn't understand how she could be making such bad decisions.
She got a job at the local super market and proved to be a very good employee for the first 8 months, then her behaviour begin to change and she ended up being fired for her declining performance to do the job and bizarre behaviour. Almost immediately after this she required emergency hospitalization for her first psychotic episode. She was taken off the Zoloft while in the hospital, she got better, was released and then restarted the Zoloft & Adderal. I noticed that within one half hour of resuming Zoloft her behavior started to seriously deteriorate, she started showing signs of psychosis. She has been hospitalized 3 times in the last 6 months. Each time her behaviour improves when she is taken off Zoloft & Adderal. Then she is released, resumes these medications and there is an immediate development of psychotic symptoms. I finally convinced the doctors to take her off of Zoloft and Adderal. She is much better now, taking Risperdol, but depressed and insecure, socially anxious because she feels after being hospitalized 3 times for psychiatric that she cannot trust herself. She is still sho9wing some degree of intellectual impairment. I don't know if my daughter will ever be back to normal, able to hold a decent job or maintain a romantic relationship again. Her future is uncertain. Considering her former (pre Zoloft) capablilities this is a tragedy. After seeing my daughter's drastic changes in behavior on and off Zoloft I feel this drug was responsible for causing intellectual decline, action without thinking and with the addition of Adderal triggering full blown schizophrenia. I am writing this to warn others of the dangers of Zoloft and Adderal. I would be interested in hearing of others experiences with thes drugs. |

Hello,
I'm sorry about what happened to your daughter because of the Zoloft and Adderall. I would feel the same way if I were you. I will not try to justify anything because obviously your daughter was wronged by the medications. I want to thank you for speaking out in this forum and on this web site. I haven't had any experience with Zoloft or Adderall. However, I don't doubt that what your telling me is the result of those two drugs. I would welcome hearing from other people who took those drugs or knew someone who did. Regards, Christina |
