I am interested in finding a support group for children of schizophrenics. I saw that there were some links on the home page, but what I would really like to find is a group that talks about what it was like being raised by someone with this disease, so the focus is more on the past than on the challenges of dealing with a schizophrenic parent in the present as an adult. I guess I am trying to leaverage the experience of others, and to get ideas for dealing with the long term affects other than therapy which I have been doing for quite a while. I feel alone, and I know that I am not, but I don't want to but into a group that is focused on dealing with immediate issues related to assistance of a schizophrenic parent.

Thanks

Hello Newb,

Could you tell us what state you're living in? I will try to research groups in your area. You could also log on to www.nami.org, or call their hotline at (800) 950-6264.

I have a friend who's been hearing voices. She's lost her job (as well as her medical insurance), because of her eratic behavior. On top of this, she's been in jail several times. (Not for anything violent, however).

She has moved to California with her parents, who don't know she's hearing voices.

Researching her symptoms, I found this site and that all her symptoms are perfectly aligned with the symptoms of a paranoid schitzophrenic.

Is there a way my friend can get treatment without health insurance? If so, does anyone have a place I can refer her in Riverside, California?

Thank you so much.

Oh... I sent her a link to this forum. I think she'd be most comfortable talking to people who've been through this before anyone else.

I hope she shows up.

Hello Danielle,

She could apply for Medicaid and Medicare to get health insurance, if they turn her down, she can appeal and request a fair hearing.

I will research options in Riverside, CA for people without insurance.

Regards,
Christina
