My aunt has had RA for a while now. She is on Methotrexate but is having a very hard time with all the side effects. She is constantly tired, has flu like symptoms, liver pain, soft stool which progresses to diarrhea, and severe pain especially in the neck when she has taken the Methotrexate. I know that these can all be side effects of the drug, but she is at a loss as to what to do next. It is very hard for her to function with activities of daily life--even just tying her shoes. Does anyone have any suggestions to battle the side effects??

She does take fish oil 4x/day

Any help would be appreciated! Thank you
Katie (I am writing from my other aunt's account)

I take folic acid with my methotrexate. I also take it daily as prescribed by my rheumatologist. Ask your aunt if she is taking folic acid with the MTX. She can ask her doctor to give her a prescription for it if she isn't. It is supposed to help with side effects. I have been taking MTX for 6 weeks now and have no side effects yet.

Best regards.
