I wanted to know how long people have been on methotrexate before they noticed a change in their RA. I have been on it for 10 weeks now and have not noticed any improvements. I still have joint pain in hands and feet. I switched to injecting the methotrexate because of GI side affects, but have not seen any improvement with this either. I do know that the nausea is directly related to how much water I drink. When my mouth is dry the nausea comes, so drinking alot of fluids is important.
I am newly RA and have been on sub-q methotrexate and oral plaquinil for about 12 weeks. I'm no worse as far as the pain goes and gradually less stiff with time. From what I read in the liturature it can be 6 months before symptoms improve, supposedly the disease progression stops quicker. I haven't had any flares since starting either.
I've been on Metho for over a year now and I have to say it kicked immediately. My doctor told me it was because I have a mild case at this point. Although in the beginning when I got my first flare up, it progressed so quickly. My pain was unbearable - but when he put me on metho...almost instantly it started to work. So far, so good - no joint damage. Perhaps you need to go on something stronger
