Hi everybody. I am a 27 year old female recently diagnosed with RA. It is very new to me, as I've been researching and talking to as many people as I can about it. I'd like to know if anyone is currently taking Methotrexate and can offer any advice on it. I'm concerned about possible side effects. Any advice or info would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Janeenmaria, I was diagnosed with RA 5 years ago at the age of 38. Just two months ago, my doctor prescribed methotrexate along with my usual treatment of Enbrel. I have felt much better than when I was taking the Enbrel alone. At first, I experienced extreme fatigue and nasua, the morning after I took my weekly dosage I would feel like I had a hang-over. I no longer have much difficulty with it and so far I haven't experienced too much hair loss (which can sometimes occur). Good luck with your treatment.
When do you take the MTX? I've heard some take it over the weekend because they're not feeling in the best of shape. I've heard others take it on Thurs. night so that they will be able to feel ok on the weekends. Also, do you know anyone who has taken MTX and then got off of it to have children? Did you have any children while you were on Enbrel? Did you have to temporarily stop your treatment for a few months?
Is that your daughter in the pix? She's adorable. Best of luck to you!
I take the MTX on Monday evening because I have off on Tuesdays. The negative effects only last until late afternoon and the longer I've been taking it, the less the side effects seem to be.
I'm not sure about MTX and pregnancy, I had a hysterectomy after my son was born and the doctor never mentioned any of the implications to me since he knew my history. (I was diagnosed when my last child was 4 months old)
The picture attached is just an icon from the website that you could select to identify with your entries. I chose it because it appears to be a loving mother and that is certainly something that I am always trying my best to be! But thank you for the nice comment!
Best of Luck, hope someone can help you with the information you need.
Hello janeenmaria, I have never taken Methotrexate ...In fact I am still very confused about what I am suffering right now and I just hope to have some response on it quickly...Sorry I couldn't help you..
Hello everyone! I am ten years old. Right now I am using my mom's log in (with her permission) and blogging and stuff. I am really worried about my mom-her joints always hurt and I'm worried she doesn't get enough exercise. Does water aerobics work at all? Please reply. I want my mom to be cured ASAP. -Arthritis Super Mom's Daughter :-)
Water Arobics! Well there is a wise question and coming from a 10 year old person too! It always amazes me how much wisdom and courage people at age 10 can have. Well, about your question with water arobics and do they help. My experience has been that Exercising regulary is VERY important to help ease joint pain. And yes, exercising in water makes it much easier and less painful for the joints to move them. In the summer I like to use a 10 foot by about 2 foot tall easy-set pool. The water stays warmer in a small pool and keeping it just outside the door makes it much easier to get into several times a day (2-4) for 10 or 15 minutes at a time. I hope your Mom feels better soon. She is very lucky to have you. I can see you care about her and love her very much.
