There are sooo many calcium suppliments out there and so many claims re: osteo I was just wondering about a newer product I have heard about. For the last while my favorite product is the Okinawa Japan Coral Calcium, it has been great and I feel good using it, but i have heard soo much about hubub over this newer product AlgaeCal http://www.algaecal.com I am just wondering if anybody out there is using it, heard of it or has any feedback with this product. Nervous to try new things!
This article doesn't tell you what type of calcium to take, but explains that the most important consideration is how much elemental calcium it contains. What type you choose depends on your absorption process.
"Calcium Carbonate is the most common/least expensive but harder to digest."
"Calcium Citrate is the most easily absorbed[Wikepedia 2006]"
I don't know what to tell you about coral/algae calcium, but I'm always very leary of any product that has fantastic claims of being able to cure hundreds of disorders. If this is the type you take, and your doc thinks it's good, then I suppose that's all you need to know, and make sure it really is improving your bmd's.
