I think I may have jumped the gun on trying to go back to work. I got worried over money and so I applied at this place and they hired me. But they did not give me the position I wanted. They said I would have to work up to that, as I was not qualified and they were right. But at the time they hired me, they offered me 2 positions, and I said I was interested in the second one. So, they said I would have to try out for it. In the meantime, they told me to go ahead and get my drug test and background check all done as that had to be done within 24 hours or their offer would become void.

So I did. And then 5 days later, they said they had changed their minds and they were not going to let me try out for the second position. So all they had to offer me was the first position. Needless to say, I am not happy and do not want to do this job but they said I could work into the other ones I wanted after awhile.

I'm upset about the way they handled me. I feel like they were not honest. The environment of this place is organic, so I thought it would be good, but my health is not good enough to do the position they want me to do. It requires me to be on my feet for basically 8 hrs. with only a few breaks and 30 min lunch. I have fibromyalgia and I need to be walking around and sitting down.

If I could get pass this hurdle, I think I could move on to the next position that I did want. But getting pass the hurdle is going to be almost impossible with the health problems I have right now.

This employer does know I have migraines. I didn't go into detail but did mention it. I don't want to do anything that might jeopardize me working for them in the future either because it is a great company to work for. Do you think I could ask to work at a later date due to my health issues? Or just say that I cannot attend the orientation class at this time. They are going to ask why.

I think eventually the lady that hired me and changed her mind about the positions, is going to ask me if that is why I am not coming to work there. And I would like to be able to say yes. I read the posting that someone did yesterday about confronting her boss (can't remember her name) but I too am not good doing these things in person.

So, any comments and advice you have for me, I will be happy to take. Flower

Bummer Pam!!! I'm so sorry that's happened at work!! Of course, theoretically and legally, they can't discriminate against you for a disability, but we both know that it happens all too often!!

Did you check with Dr. K to see if any of the meds you are taking might have sent up a red flare for your drug test? I know sometimes "okay" drugs can make a random drug test look funny. I don't know, it's just a thought.

Do they have a human resources office where you can talk with them about ways to do your current job with modifications? I know for me my mantra has become "moderation." I figure I can do almost anything but can't do it for as long or as intensely as I use to or would like to.

What would it take for you to be able to do the job you have without too much stress on your body? For example, would it help if you took a five or ten minute break every hour? Maybe they'd let you do that and then dock you pay for that time. In other words, if you took an hour worth of extra breaks, then you'd be payed for seven hours a day rather than eight. I know it isn't the best idea financially, but it is a step in the right direction and better than not working at all.

Whatever it is, please know that I am praying for you! He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world - including the folks at your job!!!

Hugs,

Cyn

Cyn,
Thanks so much for your response and prayers. I honestly don't think there was anything wrong with my drug test. They said I passed with flying colors. I just think they wanted me to do the lesser position because they need people in that job.
It pays less and most people don't want to do it because you are on your feet for so long. And they figured I would take it.

I like your idea of asking if I could do the job with breaks and getting paid less. But don't know if they would go for that. I just don't know what to do. My brain is so foggy these days, it's hard to make a decision.

Thanks for your response.
