Blech, I don't know what's going on, if it's the steroids or what, but today is not a good day.
I'm exhausted. My head hurts. I'm feeling down in the dumps. My new doc prescribed me a 10-day course of prednisone to try to break this ongoing migraine. Today is day 7. I haven't had a break in the pain, though it did get down as low as a 3 (lower than it ever is on its own or I can get it with abortives). Yesterday it topped out at a 7. The first 5 days the pain was pretty low and it was wonderful, but yesterday and today the pain was back and it's been making me somewhat miserable. Plus, the insomnia has finally taken its toll, I think, because I'm feeling run down and exhausted today. I want to go home and nap. The steroids also gave me a bit of euphoria and a crazy amount of energy, so coming down from that isn't helping things. I will say that most of the side effects were more tolerable than some I've gotten from preventive meds I've trialed, which is pretty sad. I just wish I had gotten more of a break in the pain. Part of me really wonders if I will *ever* be rid of this constant head pain. I could just use a few hugs today. I can't get myself motivated to do anything, and it just feels too impossible to try to deal with this pain coming back again. Thanks, guys... -MJ my blog: http://rhymeswithmigraine.blogspot.com/ Why do I capitalize Migraine? Oh MJ, I wish I had that magic wand for you again. I had so hoped this would work for you.
When will they call about the Botox? Cindy |

Thanks for the hugs, Cindy. I should hear next Friday from my doc's office to find out if the Botox has been approved or not. My appointment is scheduled for the following Monday, 6/9, so at least it's not that far from now.
DBF has already agreed to make me some special diet-friendly brownies this weekend. Just a few more hours and it's the weekend!! -MJ my blog: http://rhymeswithmigraine.blogspot.com/ Why do I capitalize Migraine? MJ,
Here's some sympathetic hugs coming your way: I've avoided the prednisone for a while, as the "roid rage" got me one time, and I didn't like it AT ALL! My neuro & I joke about it now. I'm hoping you get to stay cool, quiet and in the dark comfort of your bed all weekend. I'll be sending healing thoughts your way. Rebecca |

Hi MJ,
How ya doing? Any better? I'd love to have that wand and give it a big old wave right over your head, just make it all go away. |

Hi MJ!
Just poking my head in to cheer you on! You can do it- I'm sending my super booster rocket power across the country to make it happen! No? Too cheesy? Ok, well, how about "I hope you're hanging in there, just know we're all thinking of you!" Does that sound more like it? Either way, you've got the support. Jamie Forum Moderator |

Cindy, Megs, Rebecca, Dar, Nancy and Jamie, you ladies are the best. Thanks for your hugs and well wishes.
I left work early today. I didn't have anything pressing to do, my boss had taken the afternoon off and the sun came out. So I went home and laid down on the couch with my book. I can't say my head's feeling better, but I'm feeling less down in the dumps, so that's good. While I was home, my doc called (personally!) to give me my bloodwork results from last week. Looks like it is all normal, with maybe "a hair" of metabolic acidosis from the Topamax. While I had him on the phone, I told him how I was doing with the prednisone. He was disappointed I hadn't gotten better relief, but encouraged me to finish the taper and give him a call if I have any problems. We're still on track for the Botox in a week from Monday (insurance allowing He also thanked me again for coming to my appointment last week so well-prepared. I'm going to send him and his office staff a thank you card, since I've been treated better there than I have anywhere else before and I want to make sure they know it. So now it is the weekend, I just have three more days of prednisone taper to go. DBF is making us some delicious pork stir fry for dinner and has plans for brownies this weekend as well. And I plan to rest and take it easy! Thanks again for the boost. You all helped me get through the day! -MJ my blog: http://rhymeswithmigraine.blogspot.com/ Why do I capitalize Migraine? Sometimes "mental health days" are the best things in the world- doing something that feels good for you, and take care of you! Glad you were able to read and do what YOU wanted to do!

MJ good for you for going home yesterday. You needed the calm and quiet home had to offer. What an added bonus you were home when the doctor called. Sounds like you've got yourself a gem there. When he sees someone so diligent in being prepared I'm sure it helps him be willing to go the extra mile too.
Take care this weekend. Cindy |

It is a better day, Gret - thanks for checking in on me. I got out of the house for a while, and even though my head is now pounding it was worth it to enjoy the day for a little while.
