You all have given me a smile and a giggle. I seem to trigger that "family friendly" thing occasionally, and surprise myself! And I'm not at all offended by the comparison of the 2 vs. 9 years thing. It made me smile - my MIL is always saying to me, "Well, we can always find someone who's worse off than us" ... misery loves company.
Eileen - I'm knitting a baby blanket at the moment. It is a fuzzy lavender creation, and I'm quite pleased with it so far. It's actually the fourth one in a few months - my husband's co-workers have been popping out babies like crazy, and he actually requested this one (usually I hear someone's pregnant and either make a crazy quilt or knit a blanket, depending). I usually classify those under "brain fog" projects - pick easy patterns with long rows, so the possibility for mistakes is fairly minimal. This is not the time for knitting lace ... I liked the suggestion of keeping a "what to do when you're feelin' blue" list. I used to do that, but it's been a long time. I did finally get out my iPod and started randomly listening to science fiction podcasts, which was at least distracting. The timing of this food issue is really kind of weird - I spent part of about three days a few weeks ago making tons and tons of stuff I could freeze. I have a restricted diet because of my Nardil, so I can't keep meat in the fridge for long and I'm freezing a lot more of it. Come to find out that my 10 year old has a fetish for meatballs, which I froze in packets of three, and he defrosts them, covers them with sauce and Parmesan cheese, and eats them after school. My teenager comes home, makes a pot of rice, and defrosts hamburgers, eats two bananas, and he's all set. (This is just the afterschool snack, mind you). Then later I defrost chicken and the kids make pasta and we're all set. It's almost like I knew I was going to need backup. My current favorite frozen treat is mozzerella sticks. I'm sure my arteries are screaming, but I always have enough energy to throw them in the oven... I'm rambling now, but I really wanted you all to know how much it means to have you guys understand the little stuff that piles up and turns into misery. I'm going to try to go slowly for a few days and give myself a chance to recover. These bad attacks are just so brutal on the body. Even my back hurts from being in bed so much. But I was smart last night - I drove my kids to swim practice (it's only 10 blocks away), and I used my handicapped sticker so I only had to walk about 20 yards, and it was a good thing because I was dizzy by the time I sat down in the lobby. Keep your fingers crossed for me! Even if I only get a day or two of a break before the next one comes, I can pull myself together and face it! With all my gratitude, Lynne P.S. And Eileen, be careful, or I'll attempt to convert you to knitting....I can sense the potential already! |

I'll be keeping my fingers, legs and toes crossed for you to stay well for much longer than a day or two.
I'm so glad your spirits are back up and you're knitting! I can't even sew a button on a sweater. Let alone make the sweater. LOL. Laura Forum Moderator ***You're welcome to enter your birthday, etc in the Celebrate folder so we can party with you!! =) *** |

Lynne your comment about a restrictive diet on Nardil reminds me of how happy my siblings and I were years ago when my Dad was on Nardil. My family traveled every summer from New Mexico to Bozeman Montana because of my dad's position as an adjunct professor at Montana State. My father was notoriously cheap traveler. Sometimes the only thing we would eat was bread and cheese. My father was able to survive on bread and swiss cheese. My mother's objections was the only thing that would spare us from a constant diet of it during traveling. Taking Nardil meant Dad couldn't have swiss cheese. We never ate so good as we did when he couldn't eat cheese. Mary in NM |
