Starting a new post so they don't get too long.

My head hurts. Just a little, but I need to keep an eye on it. The migraine yesterday wasn't too bad, but I felt pretty lousy by bedtime. This morning I wanted to let DH sleep in, so I stayed in the living room after I had breakfast, instead of coming back to bed. I was catching up on newspapers and that's not always a mig friendly activity for me. I hope it hasn't already triggered a recurrence. If the dang beastie comes back just because I was nice to DH, he's gonna pay! LOL!

I really don't like the way my head feels. I guess I'll go get an icepack. Poo.

Well, poot! It came back. My head was already hurting by 11:30 this morning so it's definitely a continuation of yesterday's beast. (Leftover beast? Doesn't sound very appetizing!) And the weather's not as good today since a front went through. So it finally turned into a full fledged mig at 2:30pm. Took my Imitrex and Anaprox, went to bed with an ice pack, it got better but still hurts. I am really sick of this.

But at least I don't feel as crummy as I did Thursday night with the awful fibro flare. They will have to pry my Elavil from my cold dead hands from now on! Razzer

Two months on the menopause ticker, yay!

Doggonit Laura Sue--you weren't supposed to get it back so soon. My headache jumped up too around 11. I treated with Zomig NS and Benadryl IM for the anticipated nausea. Feel ok now, which is good since I'm going to dinner with other RPhs at store tonight--Indian food since Raji is vegetarian. She promised to help me pick something out with no curry since I hate cumin.

Hope you find something to get the beastie back in his cage for now.

Okay, DH gets it 98% of the time, really gets it. The other 2%???? Not so much. He was kinda sorta joking and it wasn't directly about the mig, but I was just told I have to get out of my "Slough of Despond." (That's from John Bunyan's A Pilgrim's Progress for you non-English majors out there.)

Ah well, primary caregivers are allowed their occasionally inapt comment. Small price to pay really all things considered.

So I'm at a Day 2 level mig hangover this morning. Feels like my brain is bruised inside my skull. The woman who cleans for us is coming which makes it hard to rest enough to prevent recurrence so I'm probably in for a 3 day'er. (And no nonsense from anyone about self-fulfilling prophecies, okay? If I could trigger my own migraine just thinking about it, I could also prevent them by just thinking about. I'm not that powerful. I'm just stating the chances realistically based on 4 years of data in my mig diary.)

I thought of three questions for my mig specialist about Medrol. How fast, how often, how much. I currently start it on Day 4 of a migraine. I wonder if I could/should start it on Day 3. He's never specifically said, because I've never specifically asked.

How often? He has had me take two courses back to back. I know steroids have to be used with caution, but I wonder if I could take it say, 2 days one week then 4 days the following week, etc. What would be the "no more than" limit? No more than x courses in a certain month.

How much? He currently says just to take half a dose pack spread over two days for a total of 10 or 11 pills. Would it be helpful to take the whole four day 21 pill course? Was there a reason for only taking half?

He has this really cool web-based secure email system called RelayHealth for asking questions and stuff. You have to have a login so you don't actually know his email. The system sends you an email when he replies then you go to the secure website to read it.

Feeling pessimistic this morning but that's from the mig hangover.

Thanks for listening.

Well Laura Sue--

Guess we can have tea together today. I'm on day 2 of the migraine also. The Indian food did NOT agree with me last night (actually not really a surprise since I know I can't eat anything even a little spicy if I've been fighting a migraine). Bad news: Couldn't manage to throw it up, so was sick to my stomach til 4a.m and couldn't sleep--hence, day 2 plus extra bad nausea. Since it was a "work" dinner, couldn't really get out of it, good thing I didn't have to work today.

Hope you get yours under control. Zomig helped the head. Nothing is doing much for the nausea!

Shoot, Day 3. I was just sitting here minding my own business. It kept feeling like it was coming but it didn't hit and didnt' hit and then finally it hit. i can't stand this. what am i going to do? and andy wants me bback to normal. i know he's just scared, just like me.

let's see three weeks til mig spec appt and ask him about second opinion. tomorrow maybe we can get through without a mig, no cleaning lady no outside errands or appts, andy's home earlier so that could be a prob. he'll want to watch jadams but that's okay since i just listen.

wed is dr. schuster. if mig comes back tomorrow i'll have to cancel again, two weeks in a row.

i'm down to one imitrex. insurance pays tomorrow. have to sweet talk andy into going over there for it. or have the doorman put it on the elevator. i'm sure i can get a to go.

how much longer oh mig gods?

i'm sorry you're fighting battles again. it must be a trend because the migraine fairy visited me last night too, and she brought her magical, painful baseball bat and i couldn't get her to stop hitting me in the head with it. if i find fairy repellent, i'll send some your way.

hope you feel better and the migraine fairy or god or whatever gets bored and leaves.

happy thoughts sent your way.

I DID IT!!!! No mig today!!!!

I kept my head on ice all day (I have four icepacks that I rotate), put on my eyeshade and just lay there quietly thinking, meditating and praying (to the mig gods and anyone else up there). I took a Frova in the morning as a preventive, I put the Lidoderm patches on my shoulders, I took 2 Anaprox at 6pm (about the time I usually get a mig), and 1/2 Xanax about the same time, so that I would stay in bed. I only played Spider Solitaire on the computer and not too much, and I didn't spend time on the mig forum or another chat room I do.

It worked! But I have a doctor's appt tomorrow which means going out which means mig. But that's okay.

Thanks for listening.

LauraSue- So glad you were able to stave off another one- ice packs are always a life saver for me. As far as lying still for long periods of time- you must have a really good doctor to give you xanax- that's the only way I would lie still! Keep us posted on how you're feeling today! Group Hug

Val and Jenny, you both made me grin, thanks!

Head hurts a little this morning, already on first icepack, but have to go out to weekly shrink appt. And it's a very bright sunny day, which is going to hurt my eyes and trigger me. Oh well, that's what Imitrex is for!

Later...

Well, of course I got a mig. Must have started in the cab down because i was very photophobic when i got to my doctor's office. (Actually in NYC, many work from home due to high rent. She sees patients in the front room of the downstairs of a brownstone down on 30th St. It's really pretty.) I was also having trouble finding words. I took an Imitrex as soon as I got there and by the time I left I was feeling better.

Now I'm home on my ice pack. I have to go out tomorrow too. I have another doctor's appt, this one with a dermatologist. I have some sort of a rash or dermatitis or something under my nose that's spreading to my cheek and it hurts! So I want to get that looked at ASAP. But going out will almost certainly trigger a recurrence.

I got an answer to my Medrol questions from my mig specialist. He now wants me to start the Medrol on Day 3 not Day 4. And he wants me to take the whole dose pack of 21 pills over 4 days. He said there's no studies on how much is safe to take in a month, so hopefully I wont need it more than once a month or so.

So looks like Friday is my next extreme sensory deprivation full bed rest day to limit this beastie to two days.

Oh, did I mention I'm going for neuropsych testing for my long-term disability fibro claim? It's scheduled for Mon and Tues, May 19 and 20, starting at 9am the first day and 10am the second day. I don't normally even wake up until 10am so i should be pretty dysfunctional for that. It's also a guaranteed mig, so they will get to see me in full basket case mode! They sent us a whole package of forms to fill out that we're going to do this weekend. Fun.

Thanks for listening!
