Well, about 3 weeks ago I had a brain MRI because I fell on a previous Monday and had motor problems the next day, plus additional problems swallowing.
I ended up seeing the nurse practitioner since she had more open appointments than my GP. I don't really care for her, but thought I would give her another chance. First off, she barely took any note of my swallowing problems, immediately deducing that it was acid reflux. Fair enough, I thought that might be a problem anyway. But I had to stop her before she literally ran out the door (not even a minute after coming into the room, I kid you not), and tell her that I'd had a fall and motor problems afterwards. So she tells me she'd order an MRI. Great. On the MRI paper she writes "headaches". Okaaay, I tell myself, I will alert the MRI team to what it's really for. No problem. I have the MRI. I have to tell the MRI place TWICE to send a copy to my migraine specialist, because my doctors want to look at the disc and see the report. The first time, the fax doesn't go through. I have to call them and give them a different number. I called my PFO coordinator last Tuesday since I hadn't heard anything back from anyone. She said she never got the fax! So I call my GP and alert them that I haven't had my MRI results and that my migraine specialist needed the report too, and the MRI place was apparently too stupid to send the report subsequent times, and they never called me about their problems to boot. My NP calls and leaves a message. "Hi Heather, this is X, I have the results from your tonsil test, and your tonsils are a bit low in your throat, that's all, the doctor says it's nothing to worry about. So your test was negative." WHAT? I didn't have my throat checked. Oh, the NP checked for swallowing problems, but that's all. I had a BRAIN MRI FOR FALLING DOWN. Also, I had my tonsils taken out when I was 8. aloofelf.blogspot.com myspace.com/leelood5e My disabling chronic illness is more real than your imaginary medical expertise. |

Ayaiyai Leeloo! How come we're the ones who are supposed to have something wrong with our brains and they're the ones who are so stupid???
Good luck! Be sure to complain to your PCP about the opposite-of-care you got from the NP! - Megs |

Eeek! What stupidity and ineptitude. That's a classic case of "the stupids" from your GP's NP on down...

I am literally speechless. That level of professionalism is appalling.

Yuck, Yuck, and Double Yuck! Is it time for a new doctor? Or a new policy to avoid the NP like the plague?

Yeah, I think all I can do is laugh about it right now. I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm pretty upset about it, but I tried to call them after I got the message, hoping maybe I would get someone anyway (they were closed of course), and now I have to wait til Tuesday to call them.
I'll be asking for my records and writing a letter to the Dr. about the past two years' ineptitude, really I should have left a while ago. But like I said, HE'S not the problem, it's his staff. I hope that the letter will go to him first instead of being pawed through by his office staff. As far as how I'm doing, well, I bought $200 worth of rollerblading gear to hopefully help me out of the house and into some exercise. I don't think it will happen unless I have supervision. It's either a migraine or no one's home, lol. The acid reflux medication I am on is treating me well, so I think my swallowing problems were related to that. I'm also losing weight since I started taking it, and the Zoloft I'm on, because I have less anxiety and I'm not eating so much for comfort anymore. I think the acid reflux was tricking my stomach into thinking it was hungrier or something, because it was harder to tell when I was full previously. Now it's easier. I don't know, I ramble! I just hope I get answers next week! aloofelf.blogspot.com myspace.com/leelood5e My disabling chronic illness is more real than your imaginary medical expertise. |

Leeloo, this is seriously lame behavior from your doc's office!
I'm glad to hear you're feeling better. -MJ my blog: http://rhymeswithmigraine.blogspot.com/ Why do I capitalize Migraine? I once fired a primary doctor, although I was satisfied with the medical care, because of the way her office operated. I decided it didn't help to have a good doctor if her office couldn't handle making an appointment for a physical without calling me back three times to change it. That was the last straw.
I went looking for another doctor, and I'm now very satisfied with my medical care AND the way my doctor's office operates. |

Leeloo,

This type of inepitude reminds me unfortunately of internist who diagnosised my stepmother with being out of shape and having costoschondritis. She really had two different forms of blood cancers. Getting your records would be the perfect time to raise your voice and tell an office full of other patients about their incompentence. Who knows it might save someone's life. Mary in NM |
