I hate this I hate it soo much. Mad Why do doctors in er go against the careplan writen by your doctor and neuroligist? I thought the care plan was there so I wouldn't get hassled like this anymore but noooo this afternoon i went to emerg with one of the worst migraines ever throwing up and everything. I sat in the waiting room for 2 hours, got into a bet and saw the doctor within 10 minutes and then he left again. After 30 minutes he came back saying that he can't help me tonight cause I was in last night and he didn't want to over medicate me(which is a bunch of you know what). He wouldn't even treat my nausea, he just sent me home and when i complained he said then he would give me pills for the nausea and i told him look, my doctor wrote the careplan for me, he watches how many times I go in, I see him 1/2weeks about it sometimes more and pills will not work since i'm puking!! I told him to call my doctor but he wouldn't. The nurse suggested for me to go home and come back at 11:00pm when he was off and another dr was on she knew I was upset but that was all she could do for me. First off i havn't had a migraine for 3 weeks(which is really good for me), I'm just getting over the flu, and all of my doctors(GP, Neuroligist, Neurosurgen, Cardioligists) believe that I am NOT addicted like some people think. So now because of this idiot of a er doctor i am at home with extremem pain. The vomiting has stopped and i'm waiting to see if my pills will work but i'm just soo mad at the doctor. Why do they always think you are an adict if you have migraines? Do they really think that we want to be their getting these meds? Do they think that we don't want a life and have given up? Why do they override doctors orders from the gp.s who know their patients and the entire history? It's not fair!! Crying

I'm so sorry you ran into that kind of mistreatment. It stinks. No doubt about it.

Let me ask you something though. Why did you have to go to the ER during the day when your doctors should have been in their offices? Why doesn't your own doctor take care of you?

Hi there,

Did you have your "careplan" with you when you went to the ER? That might be helpful if not. We some forms you can take with you each time you go to the ER that your doctor can fill out. To see those forms continue reading: Emergency Migraine and Headache Care - Forms To Help.

Your treatment was abissmal, and no one deserves that. Let's hope your next visit is better.

Jemimakitten,
It sounds like you've had a horrible time with the ER! I can't begin to tell you how sorry I am that you've been through all of this! I hope that you can talk with your doctor and get things straightened out so that you get better treatment should you need to go back to the ER!

I hope you are able to relax a bit, as I know that anger (as justified as it is!) can cause migraines to be even worse!

Take some deep breaths and remember that there are a lot of people who care! Hopefully, you'll find some doctors who care as well!

I'm so sorry you had such a horrible ER experience! I can't believe they'd treat you that way. Is there another hospital in your area that you could go to?

I really hope you're feeling better! Group Hug

Teri you asked why i go to the ER rather than my doctor during the day. The answer is 1)I go to ER because i need IV medication and fluid. 2) To get into my doctor you have to phone in and make an appointment first thing in the morning. 3) All my doctor could do is give me the IM shot and send me over with written orders which should be followed but are usually not(yes my doctor is making a full complaint about his orders not being followed in the ER after seeing him.)

Well I ended up back in emerg the next morning and this time the doctor did follow my plan. He also warned me that they were trying to put a new policy into place for migrainers. In it they would not treat migraines with narcotics any more. He said that they want to do this to stop some of the people from comming in right away without trying their meds at home first. I asked him what about people like me who are very limited on what they can take due to health issues and allergies and who try taking their meds at home for 3-5 days before comming in. He didn't have an answer excdept that i would have to live with it. I contacted my doctor and he has been looking into it and says that it most likely will not go through cause they can't just go and make new policies when they want to.
