New post so they don't get too long.
Mig recurred today for third day so started Medrol. Had a good productive day up until it hit tho. I've decided that I can't wait until I'm "better" to do things. What if I never get better? I will have missed my whole life! So the goal now is to assume I'm getting a migraine each day and to get as much done before it hits as possible. I actually did some hand wash this morning! It's been six months since I did that! Seeing specialist Mon and asking about second opinion. Keep hope alive and keep on trying. Gotta go take some pills. Bye for now. LauraSue. (I'm 55, have had severe migraines for over 4 years due to menopause, plus I have fibromyalgia. I take Imitrex plus Anaprox as an abortive and am working with my migraine specialist to find a preventive. I keep a detailed migraine diary and have made significant lifestyle changes to reduce my risk of migraines.) |

Medrol is making me very light headed today. I get really dizzy when I first stand up. I'm a little concerned about it, but it's probably nothing serious.
I'm not quite as productive today, but that's okay. The approach was to do as much as I feel like as possible before the mig hits. Today I don't feel like doing stuff I need to be up and around to do. Did a lot of that yesterday. So today I'm doing as much on the computer and in bed as I can before the mig hits (if it does). So that works for me. I have a three day mig hangover today so I feel pretty washed out anyway. But there's not a THING I have to do today so I can just take it easy. For which I am extremely grateful. LauraSue. (I'm 55, have had severe migraines for over 4 years due to menopause, plus I have fibromyalgia. Got the mig blues tonight. This too shall pass, though.
Mig hit about 6pm. Took Imitrex right away. Took second dose 8pm. Head pain pretty much gone now, but feeling blah. Gotta finish mig diary for Mon's appt with mig specialist. LauraSue. Thanks, Laura, yes I am! Nothing like a good night's sleep to get those seratonin levels back up where they should be!
I have already showered. That was my major "before" for today. And caught up on last Monday's paper, so only Tues-Fri to go. I don't count today's as long as it's still today! This new approach is still working for me: assuming I'm going to get a mig every day and getting as much done before or after as I can, no procrastinating. Each "new approach" works for awhile then things change and it doesn't work anymore. But so far so good on this one. That's what I say now each time DH asks me how I feel: "So far, so good!" That's really the best anyone can do, right?! Cause we never know what might happen in the next minute or next hour. I'm getting cold feet about asking my mig specialist for a second opinion. I'll do it, don't worry, just nervous about it. Silly, I know, but a normal reaction when we are going to try new behavior like sticking up for ourselves. It's not that I think he'll have any problem with it, it's that I can't imagine what another doctor could do that he hasn't. Again, I know that's silly, but we've tried so many different things and different combinations of things over the past three years. And yes, I know there's over 100 preventives, but sometimes an entire category has to be eliminated for good reason. Like some people can't take certain things because of heart problems. But I have the two other doctors names and I am going bravely into his office and saying which one should I go see. Day after tomorrow. Then I'm taking the rest of the week off! LOL! LauraSue. Laura Sue --
Well, the day after tomorrow is now tomorrow. Just wanted to remind you that you're going to ask for a second opinion at your specialist's appointment tomorrow. To cheer you on -- I started seeing a specialist in November. My local neurologist, who has been treating me for more than 10 years, wasn't encouraging that she'd know anything that "the rest of don't know." Well, guess what! She did! She started me on MagOxide and Lyrica and changed one of my antidepressants from Effexor to Cymbalta. The last time she added verapamil. I'm actually better. I'm no longer waking up with a dull headache. Many days, my pain doesn't get above a 2, and I have some days that are no more than 1. For someone who was having 5-7 pain every day (not in rebound), this is an incredible improvement. Good luck tomorrow. Remember what you promised yourself about speaking up for yourself. Hang in there! Gretchen in Mississippi |

I'll add my good luck for you for tomorrow. You're doing the right thing in asking about a second opinion. If it doesn't pan out, you can always go back to your current doc.

Gretchen, thanks for the reminder and for the success story. I'm so glad you're doing better thanks to the new doc.
MJ, thanks for your support. Yes, you're right, if I don't like the new doc, Dr. Green has certainly done everything he can and I really like him personally. Well, I stayed pain free most of the day, even watched a little TV with DH. My head hurt a little but it wasn't a mig yet. But about 20 min ago, my head twinged. Oh no! Sure enough a mig hit at 10:30 tonight. That's very unusual for me, unless we're out at theater. I suppose it must have been the TV, which is a big trigger for me. Oh well, since I'm assuming now that I'll have a mig every day, I'm not too disappointed. At least I caught it and am treating it, so I won't wake up with it tomorrow. To be continued... LauraSue. Dr. Green was extremely gracious about consulting another specialist and said all the right things. So tomorrow I call Dr. Lawrence Newman to schedule an appointment.
Dr. Green didn't make any changes in my meds or treatment, so we're still in "waiting it out" mode, hoping that my menopausal hormone swings will ease up soon. It's almost three months since my last period, which I think is the longest time yet, so maybe the end is finally in sight. In the mean time, I'm home, I have a mig, I took my Imitrex and I'm lying down with an ice pack. And so it goes... LauraSue. I'm so glad your appointment with Dr. Green went well and he understood about contacting another specialist. That's great news! I hope you can get in to see Dr. Newman soon.

Laura Sue--
I'm so glad your appointment went well. Sometimes we can stew ourselves up with worry assuming our doctor is going to be angry when we make a perfectly normal request. I spent all week last week gathering info how as a dressage rider that at 59 I'm still an athlete and thus entitled to physical therapy for my shoulder because I was sure my "Sports Medicine" specialist would try to brush it off. He said it was a great idea, looked like I did need a little help to get back to 100%. Sometimes our docs actually do want to do their best for us. Tracie |
