I figured I should start a new thread for this because it was a seperate subject from my meltdown last week (mostly). Also, I'm not going to have a nervous breakdown over this one, but I am in awe over the absolute disregard of the humanness of the patients in my neurologist's office.

After my initial visit with him, I saw my PCP a day and a half later. He had already sent him a two-page report on my visit, so I know its not an issue of offcie orgaization. Between me and my disability company, we have pretty much badgered that office for the past week with requests for information and they have completely stonewalled. The man just has respect for doctors, but not for patients. We are viewed as conditions, not as people. I am the headache in room one.

When I called him a month ago about disability, he tried to put me off and said my PCP should deal with it. Well, my PCP did deal with it, but my neuro had more info, so he should be forthcoming. The nurse talked to me today, called the office again today, he still doesn't have the paperwork done. She's going to send my paperwork up anyway, with the reccommendation that I get approved for disability through July, since I see other docs at the end of that month. We'll see what happens. Keep me in your prayers.

I work in healthcare, behind the scenes. The best doctors are called to it. They remember that their patients are people. They think about what they would want for their mother. I am not the headache in room one, and neither are you.

Be well,
Melissa

Melissa,

Very well put, you're right, we're not just a chart number, we're people and we deserve to be treated as such. I have a great local neuro but one member of his staff is just a miserable person and I do everything I can to avoid dealing with her. When I'm left with no other option, I figure the best way to deal with her is to treat her with kindness, it confuses her. Wink

This is a bit off topic, but I don't think it's limited to just doctors and their staff. I feel like our society as a whole has lost patience with each other. Everyone is in such a hurry and act like their day is so much more important than ours. What ever happened to "please", "thank you" and "can I help you"? If we would all take a deep breath, relax and respect each other, the world would be a nicer place to live in. Ok, I'll get off the soapbox now. Soap Box

That is one of many reasons I never went back to the first neurologist I saw. He treated me like I was keeping him from something far more important he could be doing. His office staff was miserable too.

I won't stick with a doctor who doesn't treat me like a person. I am fussy that way. I don't care if you're the most brilliant neurologist that ever lived. Treat me with respect, or I am out the door.

We all have our fingers crossed for you that your doctor gets his act together and that your disability gets at least approved for long enough for him to get the paper work in. Good Luck
