Ok, so I just need to minorly vent for a sec here.

Head is still pounding, as I sit in my dark bedroom only lit my my laptop.

But I thought you guys could get a laugh/comic relief/shake you head? at this.....

Why is it that people whom I believe to be fairly intelligent....tell me today that they think a chiropactor would really help my migraines???

Ok .....

1. Migraines are neuological so cracking my back probably won't help that much.

2. um, a chiro visit for me is $40 a pop, no to mention, you know the person is going to want to see me no less then 3 times a week... Eeker
So unless this person wants to start paying my bills, mortgage and things, shut the heck up!

I told this to my husband and he just said duh! and I just said thank you for not suggesting something I should try!!

He said, and I swear this is probably the smartest thing this man has ever said besides "I do" LOL - he said "baby, I know you know your stuff, and you are working with doctors, so for me to try and tell you what to do, I would be out of line"

Thank you!!!!!

It was just nice to know that at least someone close to me in my life gets me and knows that if there was something else I could/would/should be doing right now - I'd be doing it. Right?

I mean we've all heard it, seen it, been there, done that, tried it, bought it, rubbed it on our forehead in hopes of it working.....

So if its out there, we know.....we don't need a peanut gallery that doesn't know this kind of pain telling us to go to a flipping chiropractor.

Ok I'm done now. I'm getting off my Soap Box and going to sleep. This migraine has moved from left to right and I now realize it's possible this is really day 2 and it wasn't TTH yesterday. Yep. Sleep time!

Eileen- The only thing I can think of is- maybe they were trying to help(in a really weird way!). There's no way people who haven't had a migraine understand just how incredibly painful they are- a chiropractor might make it worse! But some others really stand by their chiropractor- whatever works for them! I'm so sorry you're in so much pain right now- here's a hug for you Group Hug

LOL, Eileen, I'm cracking up at the phrase "chiro visits are $40 a pop"... get it... chiro - POP - I'm giggling. I totally needed that laugh, thank you! Big Grin

Seriously though, the suggestions I've gotten from people at work - a few weeks ago, one of my coworkers suggested those herbal hangover pills they sell at Walgreens. I just looked at him, thinking, are you kidding me?? Do you seriously think that would work on my *migraines*?!?

Hope you're feeling better in the morning, hun. Heart

Thanks guys!

I just got really angry over this person saying this because this person knows that this is a neurological disease. Someone in her family has MS - would she suggest a chiropacter to her? I don't think so.

She suggested this because I was rubbing my neck - uh yeah because when I get a migraine that trigeminal nerve gets inflamed and really causes achey neck!!!

That does not mean I need a darn chiropractor!!!!

I'm glad I could make you laugh MJ!!! LOL I made myself laugh too, but sometimes, especially when I am in pain, I need a laugh.

Love to you all!!!! Thanks for letting me get this out!!!

There are some people who lump them all together into one big...headachemigraineclustertension thingy.

Both my daughters see a chiropractor but for what ails them, he's great. Elder Assistant Offspring was hit from behind and had a back injury. Only chiropractics gave her back her mobility and relief from pain. Younger Assistant Offspring does martial arts and teaches the lower-belt classes. She'll be a black belt in another year or so and nothing eases her pain like chiropractics.

Wouldn't get me on one of those beds for NOTHIN'. Hair Raising

I used to see one, back in the day -

But now with my shoulder deal, neck issues and all this other stuff - I have to admit, I'm scared!!!!

There were times when I'd go in and get a good cracking and I would feel worse for a couple days - I can't take that chance now with migraines making it trigger me.

I feel for you. I've had so many people give me so much advice from seeing a chiropractor to telling me that I just need to have a massage. I wish that would fix things. LOL

I try not to be mad. I know they are only trying to help but it's also their ignorance of not knowing what migraine disease is. I totally understand the frustation.

I have personally never been to a chiropractor - but many websites/blogs/information I've read - people swear by them. Who knows...

My neuro has referred me to a physical therapist - head and neck manipulation. We'll have to see how that goes....should be interesting.

Venting is good - it's nice to hear that other people get frustrated also. Keep us posted if you decide to go get "popped" - and thanks for the giggle.

It does seem to me that with migraines, people can't seem to resist recommending some type of magic bullet--even people with migraines want everyone to try whatever works for them!

Ah yes, the chiropractics offer. I had that a couple of weeks ago too.

I said politely that with my frequency of migraines that it wasn't an option, along with the PMA. With the risk of stroke, too, I look at those upper neck manipulations as being too much of a risk to consider.

I do the massage thing, but it has never eased nor aborted a migraine, or helped prevent them either. My first massage triggered a migraine, subsequent ones didn't, but I did have a massage with a raging migraine one day and the facial she gave me really helped to ease a lot of the pain I was having in the face and around the eyes. Too bad she couldn't have worked on it all day!

But someone actually offer to "find a Logan" for me! Like I don't know where our local Logans are. Yeesh.

I understand that people are trying to help. I think it's more that they miss the point that we're already trying everything we can think of and that nothing they suggest is nothing we haven't heard of before, and that can be annoying. I do appreciate that someone is trying to help, but I'll be darned if I give the glory of finding my cure to a bystander, lol! I'm working too hard for that.

Eileen,

I think a lot of situations like this come about because people really DO want us to feel better...I've had people say "Have you really tried EVERYTHING?" Then they'll go on to ask about chiropractors, acupuncture, herbs, etc. Somehow they think that I may have missed these treatments along the way. My aunt even recently emailed me the contact info for an acupuncturist that helped with her daughter's fibro! She's convinced that acupuncture will help with every kind of pain there is!

Try to think of it as "good intention with bad delivery." Dh always reminds me that people wouldn't make suggestions like these if they didn't genuinely want me to feel better.

While we're on the subject, I'll mention two of the more unbelievable "cures" I've heard.

The first came from a coworker. He suggested trepanning - you know, the ancient "art" of drilling holes in your skull. This one, at least, I can understand where he's coming from because sometimes I'm tempted to drill holes in my skull when the pain is bad. (I'm kidding!!)

The second came from the hygienist at my dentist. Apparently she once had a patient with chronic headaches and sensitive gums. It turns out this patient had too much blood, so her doctor told her to donate blood as often as possible and that "cured" her headaches and her bleedy gums. Eeker

Yikes MJ - How many holes in the skull do you think it would take - i'm picturing myself with a skull like a colander...

I've seen a chiropractor for years, after several back & neck injuries from auto & skiing accidents. I love my chiro and I think keeping my spine in line helps me feel well generally, keeps me from getting neck & back aches - but I really have noticed no help for my migraines. No correlation between chiro treatments and how often I get migraines or how severe they are. My chiro used to tell me I should come see him at first sign of migraine - I tried it once or twice and just ended up having to delay taking the triptan so I could drive, and then feeling worse from delaying and the stress & bright light of driving. So, no, I don't recommend chiropractic for migraines!

Confused Confused Confused Confused

Trepanation?!?!??! Is that even legal in the Western Industrialized world???? Why not leeches while we are at it??? Skillet

I get this from my mom and sister once and a while. I know they mean well. My mom has a really extensive knowledge of herbal medicine, and my sister is in Massage Therapy school and studying Oriental Medicine....so it isn't like they are totally nieve.

But some of the stuff they say, I'm like OF COURSE I HAVE TRIED THAT!!! Like when they tell me to elminate ___ food. Uh, elmination diet was the FIRST thing I tried......

I know they want to help, and I try to keep that in mind. But I think that Eileen's husband hit the nail on the head.
