I was doing so well too.
Well ladies, I went to sleep last night with a terrible headached but since I had the sniffles from a bug my husband brought home I figured it may be a sinus headache or a cold. I thought I could just sleep it off and get some rest, and hopefully feel better in the morning. I didn't want to treat it as a migraine until I could confirm it was a migraine. So I woke up this morning from terrible pain around 0500 after an awful night of tossing and turning and I was having a hard time breathing. I was still in a bit of denial as it has been 18 glorious days since my last attack and the Topamax was helping. Needless to say when the dry heaving started I knew my suspicions were confirmed and there was no getting around it. My husband gave me my Imitrex injection around 0600 and then I started throwing up everywhere and wasn't holding anything down. After a few vomitting episodes I felt better enough to finally fall asleep. I slept till about noon and then the pain jolted me from sleep once again. After crying and contemplating my next move I told my husband and he called our on call Dr. The on call Dr immediately sent me to the ER. Upon arrival to the ER the nursing staff was just as lovely as can be and they took me in right away and got me set up in a dark room and covered me with a warm blanket. The ER doc came in and talked to me and got some history and then told me he was going to give me a shot because I was in way too much pain. He gave me Diladid and Phenegran and talked to me about how I was so young and how he didn't want to see someone so young suffer. He was truly one of the most wonderful ER docs I have ever come across. After my shot he let me rest for another hour or so and came back in and talked to my husband and I some more. I thanked him and gave him a hug. One thing I noticed about this migraine that was new to me is I was seeing sparkles in my left eye. The sparkled then turned to flashing worm like things flying every which way. It was kind of neat to look at yet alarming at the same time. ..and yes, feeling 100x better now |

Gee, I know how discouraging it is to have another migraine after a long break. You just don't want to believe it. And then, it sounds like this one was a real humdinger.
A lot of people find that their prodromes or auras change after they start preventive meds. Do be sure to mention the change to your doctor. Let's hope you have another long break. I'd suggest you take a look at this article: Sinuses Giving You a Headache? It's Probably Migraine. Take care of yourself. |

How awful after 18 wonder days for you to have to go through this. The upside is you did have the 18 wonderful days.
My prodrome and aura have radically changed as Nutcracker suggested since I started Depokote the beginning of March. I have continued to have migraines and will probably need to up the dosage, but I could treat the ones I get much better if I reconized I was getting the migraine. Very frustrating after all these years. I am beginning the error on the side of caution and treat what I think is a migraine since I'm not getting that many and I have usually been right. I hope you continue to feel better today. Take care, Cindy |

I Think the hardest thing, especially after long runs with no migraines, is deciding if you DO have one starting. I know I always am in a sort of denial--hoping that if I ignore it, it won't be a migraine and I can sleep it off, etc.
That never works! Your migraine diary will help you to see exactly what kind of symptoms are appearing before the migraine, and can help you to see that yup, here comes a migraine, so you can treat early and hopefully not get in such bad straits every time. In my own experience, that's not to say you won't have other bad turkeys like this one was, but if you can catch them and use your abortives earlier, those kind will definitely be fewer and further between. Sorry to hear you got slammed by such a bad one, but I am glad to hear you ended up with such great staff at the ER. And that you're doing better now.

First off, welcome!
I'm so sorry you had such a rough last couple of days, but I'm happy to hear you had such a good ER experience and that you're feeling so much better. Eighteen glorious days is a big gifty item. Hopefully, each new stretch inbetween will get longer and longer from here on out. I'll be rooting for that to happen for you, anyhoo. Dragondrool Forum Moderator ~~8=:>>>> |
