Thanks, Laura, Tracie and Nancy!
I called Dr. Newman's office and spoke to the receptionist. His first available appt is Aug, but she wanted to speak to him and let him know that Dr. Green wanted him to see me. That may get me in a little faster, but if not, Aug is fine. As I told her, I may even be better by then! No mig yet today, but head is iffy. I have an icepack at the moment which feels good. Sometimes I almost think the ice masks the migraine, meaning I don't realize I have one until I get up and move around. Or maybe it just delays it or postpones it. Very weird. So, I asked Dr. Green if I could possibly be in rebound. He said it wasn't very likely at all since I do have one or two or even sometimes three day stretches without a mig, and because they don't start at the same time every day. He said that rebound from triptans is much easier to treat than rebound from something like Fiorinal, which stays in the body much longer. He said the treatment would be to put me on steroids, stop all triptans and NSAIDS, then after 10 days taper off the steroids to see if it helped. I'm tempted to try it BUT... my migraines are almost certainly related to perimenopause hormone swings not rebound AND... so far nothing has helped and the side effects and drug interactions and fibromyalgia triggers have been awful. So I guess it doesn't make sense. If Dr. Green were insisting, of course I'd do it, but since he doesn't think it's likely, then better to maintain the status quo rather than risk making things worse. Anyway, just wanted to get my thoughts down on that. Thanks for listening. LauraSue. (I'm 55, have had severe migraines for over 4 years due to menopause, plus I have fibromyalgia. I take Imitrex plus Anaprox as an abortive and am working with my migraine specialist to find a preventive. I keep a detailed migraine diary and have made significant lifestyle changes to reduce my risk of migraines.) |

I don't know Laura Sue. If Dr. Green doesn't feel you have MOH, I'm not sure I would experiment with dropping all your abortant and rescue meds. Several years ago I was suffering from daily migraines and my current neurologist decided it was MOH. Instead of helping me, he put me into status migrainous, and being the firable doc he ended up being did not rescue me for 10 days! 2 Neurologists later, I let another one do the same thing to me!!! That's as dumb as you get. If someone MUTTERS MOH now (I never had that in the first place) I scream "ONLY HOSPITALIZED"!!!!

Great news, LauraSue! I hope you can get in sooner than August, that would be fantastic. I'm glad you're getting that second opinion

Thanks, Tracie and Laura!
Yes, Tracie, my doc says he would only do it hospitalized for anything other than triptans. He says it's crazy not to. But you're right, I already decided I'm not going to upset the apple cart. Unfortunately, my mig came back again last night so that's five days in a row. I'm doing full twentyfour hour lockdown blackout eyeshades dark room etc, so I'll see you all tomorrow. Bye for now...
