Yesterday was my birthday, and while most of it was good, last night was a different story.
I ended up spending a lot of time in the bathroom with bad constipation. Bad enough that DBF talked to our pharmacist for me and picked up some OTC laxative suppositories, which did the trick but UGH. It looks like my Zofran, my adored antiemetic, may be the culprit. I think the Amerge I took on Tuesday contributed as well. But at least now I know that's a problem for me. I'm feeling better today. I called out of work, and don't even feel guilty about it (that's an accomplishment for me). DBF took wonderful care of me last night, and opening his presents did cheer me up. Of course, now I feel exhausted (didn't sleep well) and worn out. Can't even catch a break for one day. We had planned to go to Portland this weekend, but now I'm not sure if that's still going to happen. UGH. It wasn't my worst birthday, but it wasn't my best, either. -MJ my blog: http://rhymeswithmigraine.blogspot.com Why do I capitalize Migraine? By Official Proclamation o' the Scaly Kind, I decree (and demand!) that you get a do-over in the very near future! I'm glad you're better today.

What a bummer! I'm glad you found relief, but what a horrible way to spend your birthday.
Ask your doctor about using a docusate stool softener. The brand name is Dulcolax, but the store brand is just as good. Verapamil makes me constipated, and both Sparky (my late dog), who got constipated, and I took it. The docusate helped Sparky, but not me very much. I asked my GI doc when I had my colonoscopy in April, and she recommended Miralax. I love it! It has only recently gone OTC, but apparently it was a favorite Rx drug. I haven't found a generic, so I've been using the brand name. Look around. Walmart has it for $20, but I've seen it as high as $26. DH likes it, too. My GI doc said that I could take it every day, and that it was very safe. It's almost tasteless and dissolves completely, and isn't goopy like Metamucil. She said many people put it in their morning coffee. I just put it in water. Ask your doc about it to make sure it won't interact with any of your meds. It's been a miracle drug for me. Be sure to drink plenty of water. It helps. I hope you feel better as the day goes on. Gretchen |

Aw, MJ... I'm sorry to hear you had such stinky birthday.
I'm glad to hear you are feeling better today. And good for you taking the day off!!! I hope you get some much needed rest today. I hope you and DBF are able to make it to portland for the weekend. Oh, and if we're talking constipation, my cure all is a bowl of Frosted Shredded Mini Wheats. I know you have a pretty strict diet for your head, but I'm pretty sure its safe. Believe me, a bowl or two of that does wonders, especially if you aren't used to it |

Yeah, and I'm sure the last thing you wanted to do was explain to DBF that you are having problems "going". UGH!
It was very sweet of him to run to the pharmacy for you though! Yes, you should get a do over! Thanks, ladies. I'm feeling better than I was. DBF will be getting me some prune juice tonight after work, my old standby. I also have some MiraLax in the house. I'd rather not use those suppositories again if I can avoid it.
We decided to postpone our trip to Portland until Aug 8 (one week later). No penalties for the hotel or car rental, and the train fare was only $17 more than what we paid for this weekend. And now we'll have a little more time to plan what we want to do while we're there. One of my presents from DBF is a heated, massaging foot spa. I plan to make good use of it tonight. And there will be a do-over (mulligan, as DBF put it) of my birthday sometime soon. Thanks for all the hugs! -MJ my blog: http://rhymeswithmigraine.blogspot.com Why do I capitalize Migraine? Happy belated b-day, MJ. I'm so sorry it wasn't a very good day.
Migraine disease has made my last three birthdays pretty miserable, and it's a bad feeling. I try hard to maintain perspective on my challenges, but things like this make it hard. I hope there will be more and more good days in your future. Hi MJ - Sorry I'm chiming in late - I've had several of those stinky birthdays too - so we declare it my birthday on another day. Enjoy planning your weekend in Portland and enjoy your do-over! I have one of those foot spas and I love it - put my feet in there and the heated buckwheat neck wrap on my neck and ahh...
HOpe you're feeling much better today. |

Thanks, Jenny, Diana and Megs. I've had some ice cream cake; I've used my foot spa and DBF rubbed my feet; now we need the official mulligan and trip to PDX, and all should be right with the world - at least on the birthday front.
