Hey, gang!

"A Guided Tour of Hell: Migraine, in the Words of Its Sufferers" was written by Kristine Hatak. Here's the info on the original publisher:

Copyright 1999, 2000 Kristine Hatak
Dry Bones Press, Inc.
P.O. Box 597
Roseville, CA 95678
415-707-2129

I don't know if the publisher is still in business. Their web site no longer exists. The ISNB # on the book is 1-883938-54-6.

Don't know if this info will help locate copies of the book, but thought I'd give you what I have.

I edited to fix your second Hatka to Hatak. Smiler

I couldn't find any info on Dry Bones Press, either, when I tried yesterday. I was thinking perhaps if we ran a bombard-them-with-fervent-requests campaign we might have a shot.

I also tried searching for both ten-digit and thirteen-digit ISBN numbers to no avail. I kept getting that no such ISBN existed.

I wonder if it's just a case of small, independent publisher goes bust, really, which is a shame in it's own right. I wonder what would happen if we searched some of the other titles in the back of the book from the same publisher. Have you tried?

Wow, why does it cost so much? You can get it from amazon.ca for over $1000.

Well... this is interesting- I went to the books a million site, they said that it was print on demand- ship in 5-15 days. I was able to buy it.

I guess we'll see what happens. They may come back to me to say that they can't fill the order. I'll let you know what happens! I had it sent to my work addy so that there's someone there to sign for packages.

Here's hoping...
If it works- it looks like we may be able to get a group discount for printing multiple copies... (shrug)

Cheers,
Jamie

Hey Jamie,
I called either on thursday or friday and the woman said that they do not have that book and are not able to print it on demand. She said that I must have used a google link to find it.
So we will see...

Deb,

Supply and demand. The book is out of print, so if someone has a copy they want to sell, they can demand a high price.

There was a wonderful book written by a quilter who does amazing things with just a home sewing machine. There's an incredible quilt on the cover, with a blue heron, originally stitched on tulle. The book teaches the technique.

The book was out of print, and the price was amazing on e-Bay. The book went into reprint, and I ordered it the minute I saw the ad. It cost more than the original cover price, but not unreasonably.

Thanks, DD!

I couldn't find anything online about the publisher either. I didn't try to call that phone number. Maybe that's worth a try. When I reviewed the book and talked with Christine, she did say that it was a small independent publisher. I also had the impression that their first run may have been fairly small. It seems to me that she said the attention generated by my review and our recommending the book so highly had triggered a second printing.

Well, I got a confirmation email about my order- looks like there are no problems- at least at this point

However, it IS the weekend, so maybe no one was reviewing the contents of the order?

But then again- why would they have it on their website and allow me to get this far? I guess we'll see soon enough. If I get an email monday basically saying "It ain't happenin', I'll let y'all know."

Until then, here's hoping that I may actually be buying this book!
