I'm being cyberstalked.

I'm not going to be specific but cyberstalking is real and it's dangerous.

I'm blogging it as long as I can. My blog has been hacked once. May have to relocate.

*sigh*

If you have time, read the article on my blog. I can't put it here because it has some sources I know will trigger the word filter--just sources, not bad words at all.

The article has a couple of things that will jump-start your thought process about internet security. We CANNOT be too careful.

Mostly, you really don't know someone you don't actually know.

Oh MW that is horrible to hear!

Sometimes I wonder about people. Like is there nothing better to do in this world then be a jerk to someone else?

I hope that whomever it is, stops bothering you - and fast!

I went and read your blog and you are correct, you really have to be careful on what info you put out there!

I know "back in the day" when I had a land line phone, I immediatly went to google and had them remove it from their records. It was already not listed on the phone book, so I have no idea how they had it!

Internet safety is something we all need to be aware of. Thank you for the reminder, I'm just so sorry it has to come at a price for you.

Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help.

I hope whoever it is moves on soon.

Thanks for the heads-up! I don't think about cyber-stalking, but I should. I like it that this forum won't let you post your e-mail address. Much better to be *anonymous*.

If it's one thing you don't need, it's worrying about a stalker!

How dreadful! As if you have time on your hands to have to deal with this, too! It floors me that some people have nothing better to do than to cause trouble for others.

This certainly does help to emphasize why we have the policies we do in this forum, for the protection of privacy and identity.

It's religious.

Edit: and you know what? I'm not bothering anybody.

I accept all peoples exactly as they they are and I'm wondering if that's part of the problem of one of the groups that's after me. It seems they don't understand complete lack of religious bias.

I'm all about behaviour. That's it. Just behaviour.

I'll continue to live my quiet, peaceful life. I'm not bothering anyone. But I'm going to start a regular series on cyberstalking on my blog. If I happen to come upon anything particularly noteworthy I'll let everyone know.

Noteworthy: Google all your screen names too. THAT'S eye-opening. Hair Raising

I just did; I was absolutely amazed by how many results came back. I was even more surprised that not all of them are "me" but some guy. What an eyeopener. Thanks MW Thumbs Up

I google my real name frequently, because of the writing I've done. I can get about 200 hits, and some contain my address from when I was writing/editing for La Leche League.

So far I'm ok, except for one loon on AOL who follows me everywhere. For example, I never mentioned on my AOL parenting board about the Alice in Wonderland syndrome article I wrote, and this woman mentioned it a few weeks ago. I'm sure she googles my name to see what I'm up to. She basically uses what she finds to slam me regularly on the message board.

I'm sure she's been here, too, reading my posts. The day I think she's on this board is the day I go to Teri to have her booted off.

I googled me and well clearly I lead a pretty boring life. Which I guess is good in some respects.

What I find interesting about the people stalking Deb and MW is you two are certainly women with convictions and strong passions, but you're not threats to anyone. These people clearly are out there and need help.

MW you stated that your Atorney General's office could help, do you report the issue? Do they follow the action of the stalker/hacker on your site?

I have to admit, this has always scared me. I was actually stalked in real life...not cyberstalking. But, MW said, cyberstalking is very real. And looking up a screen name is easy, only if you know the screen name. That is one reason I wrote grateful...greatful. That is why it is so important not to put full names and address anywhere. It is just plain spooky!!

I'm sorry this has happened to you. And I thought religion was supposed to be about compassion and understanding for others?! The mystical writers(who, by the way I love to read and got a lot of flack by my ex-husband-a fundamentalist)were persecuted also for their beliefs, and they were very peaceful people. It never ends!

Varies by state. If a person believes he or she is being threatened with bodily harm the first thing is to contact the police. Then, contact the Attorney General's office to file a complaint. They will guide you from that point.

They investigate and handle prosecutions.

Some folks like to hide behind First Amendment Free Speech to intimidate their victims into silence. Threats are threats and are NOT protected by Free Speech renderings from the Supreme Court.

Yep, I do have strong religious convictions. So did Jesus. I figure I'm at least as dangerous as He was. XD

Thanks for the idea of googling my name. I used to have a very very very common last name so googling it would've brought up thousands of hits. Now that I have a unique last name, I am the only one it brings up. But, thankfully it is only a couple. I googled my screen name too and it brought up posts from this forum. Interesting...
