October is the Celiac Sprue Association's awareness month and there's another burst of awareness activities in May.

There some research linking celiac to migraines, here's one article:
http://www.celiaccentral.org/N...October_2008/519/#s2

Here's a new study where they looked at children. Headaches in children may warrant screening for celiac. http://journals.lww.com/jpgn/A...eliac_Disease.9.aspx

The main fact you need to know is that celiac is very often missed as a diagnosis. According to the Celiac Disease Foundation, 1 in 133 people have it, but only 3% are diagnosed. On average, it takes that group multiple doc visits and many years to get a proper diagnosis. Here's a symptom checklist http://www.celiaccentral.org/d...-symptoms-checklist/

Even more interesting is the new research on "gluten sensitivity" or "non celiac gluten intolerance." DH's celiac testing was negative, but he's definitely got a problem with gluten. The GF diet has made a big change in his health and he no longer gets headaches.

Getting rid of gluten is a bit more complicated than just not eating wheat, barley or rye. It can show up in supplements and medications, for example. A good starting source of information is the celiac.com forum.

I've got a great aunt that has celiac disease. She has to be careful with some of the strangest things that you wouldn't think would be a problem, like cosmetics and shampoos and conditioners. It's certainly not an easy thing to deal with.

I've been gluten-free since January 2008. I only just found out for sure last month that I don't have Celiac, but I'm definitely gluten intolerant. Unfortunately, going gluten-free hasn't done a darn thing for my Migraines, but because of my diet change I've lost about 80 pounds and am now a much healthier weight. MY IBS is also much better managed.

Companies and restaurants are starting to become much more aware of gluten issues, and some major brand names (like General Mills) are providing gluten-free products. It's a big change from even just a few years ago.
