I had to share this picture that warms my heart - not My pet, but a family one: my sister and brother-in-law have a parakeet named Cosmo. They went on vacation and my parents bird-sat. So here's Cosmo and my sweet Dad:

Too cute, Megs!
We have a parakeet that looks just like Cosmo! But ours is quite cranky. (It had a home before ours, but the owner passed away. We took it in, but it's never been too sociable...) Needless to say, we won't let it on any of our heads!! Thanks for sharing the photo!! |

Cosmo is very friendly. He chirps loudly if he's being ignored and insists you come and talk to him. he loves to perch on heads and if you tilt your head back will walk all the way down your forehead onto your nose. Very funny. If I didn't have a cat...

How cool and great is that!
My grandpa had parakeets. His were always named Pete. The last one was the one we knew best, and parakeet-sat from time to time. He took care of it for a teacher over the summer once, and when she came and got him in the fall, he ended up depressed and lonely for Gunka, because Gunka spent HOURS with him. The teacher ended up giving him to Gunka, and he had him for several years. He taught Pete to wolf whistle, and Pete would wolf whistle at Grandma when she was doing the dishes. He also said, "Pretty bird! Pretty bird Pete Pete Pete!" If I was ever to own a bird, it would definitely be a blue parakeet, and it would be a Pete. Dragondrool Forum Moderator ~~8=:>>>> |

Megan, WOW!
Your dad and Cosmo look like good friends. My late aunt, Maryfrances, had several parrots and a macaw or two over the years. DH and I farm-sat for her and Uncle Smitty for a week once. That's when I learned I'm allergic to parrots. Rico, a yellow-naped Amazon parrot, bit me. My finger swelled to enormous proportions. I was working at Med U of SC, and one of the Pathologists there diagnosed me as allergic. I still liked Rico. I still like parrots, parakeets, and all sorts of birds. But, 4 cats & 2 dogs preclude any pet birds. I don't even put feed out for the Mallards. Rebecca, The Island Mama |

Awe Droolie! What a sensitive side we are getting to see of you! Little birdies and baby duckies... So cute, lol.

I'm very much a sentimental sort. I admit it.

This is one of those "I wish I had a camcorder running" moments: Little John, one of my 2 new cats, is playing in the water dish. He keeps digging across the water's surface with his right paw, splashing as he does so. Then, he licks his right paw very thoroughly.
Correction: He's using both paws! Watching LJ is like watching someone who's lost something in a sink, or a little kid in a wading pool. He uses this same paw to "pull" my face closer when I'm petting him. He rests it on my left cheek, claws in, and strokes down towards himself. Who knows why cats do what they do?
