If prayer is in your belief system, please pray for my father and mother. May I ask for good thoughts if prayer is not in your belief system please?

Sunday morning at 1:00AM, my father tried to get up for some reason and fell. He broke his left arm, busted his head, busted his right arm fingers to elbow, and lost blood.

He's got metastasized prostate cancer. It's in his bones. His spine is so eaten up that the bones have collapsed in on themselves and created what the oncologist is calling a 'spinal fracture', his hips have deteriorated so that they'll be the next bones to break, and his arm most likely won't ever heal. Hospice is ready to come in whenever my mother is ready. The oncologist has the orders written.

My mother is so exhausted and so distracted that she's not resting. She's on the verge of no longer making good decisions. I'm ready to take that over from her and I've told her I'm about to do it--told her sweetly, but firmly. I'm on the list of people authorized to speak for my father and I'm ready--well, as ready as Meniere's disease and migraine that has made me disabled can make me ready. The stress gave me such vertigo, ear pressure, screaming tinnitus and screaming pain in my head after this event that I slept for more than 13 straight hours.

Thank you all so much. God bless you.

MW,
Prayers are in my belief system and you and your family are in them.

As difficult as the days ahead will be, your faith and love for your father and mother will help carry you through. We are never given a burden that cannot be carried.

Know you can come here any time and we will be here for you.

Lovingly,
Cindy

MW -

Hearing this brought me to tears.

How are you holding up?

We are here if you need us - for anything - you know that.

I'm not much of a prayer - but I have you and your family, mom and dad in my thoughts.

I know at times like this you are taking care of others. Please remember to take care of yourself too!!!!!

If you need anything at all - you know how to get me.

My prayers are with you and your family.

I saw this post and thought of my own father. My father's renal cancer has metastasized to his lungs and brain. While on vacation last week, he fell and cracked his head.

Here's an angel with a prayer for strong families and the awareness to enjoy the time with our fathers with which we are blessed. Angel

Thank all of you so much.

Update: 2 hours ago, the home-care RN was here and determined that my father needed to be admitted. He's dizzy and his blood pressure has dropped. She called the oncologist and he and my mom are now settled in. The oncologist has been by and said he feels like he'll at least give him a blood transfusion but won't know what else until the testing results come back. Daddy's got a bedsore that the RN and the LPN and have been vigorously treating, but it hasn't responded. He's just in bad shape.

He's gotten 7 units of blood since last October. More blood won't cure him, but it will give us a little more time with him.

For everyone who has ever donated blood, for everyone who has gone to donate but was unable to that day, and everyone who knows that he or she isn't able to donate, you're my heroes. I've donated 24 pints myself. The Red Cross tells me that I'm a newborn donor but I've about quit donating since it triggers my Meniere's symptoms.

My daughters are donating to 'replace' some of what their grandpa has taken. They are both type O negative, universal donors. Smiler

Edit: did I say they're living with me now? They've been here since January and will be for the duration.

I'm so sorry, MW! Frowner Of course, you shall have heaps and heaps of prayers going up from my corner o' the planet, along with many, many hugs to sustain you all.

I very strongly believe in donating blood. Anything that buys somebuddy extra time with a loved one is a very good thing. My donating days might be over, since I went anemic and passed out twice the last time I donated, and that rubs me the wrong way, but I so support the cause. It just makes sense, and it's a great gift to others.

Hang in there and make sure to take care of yourself while you look after your mom and dad, okay?
