Dental work? Nope. Apparently the "semi-numb" sensation is one of the beautiful side effects of the meds I'm supposed to take to prevent migraines. Light-headed, dizzy, muscle cramps, insomnia and a heart rate that wouldn't go "foomp" if you hit me with about 20,000 volts. I feel about 2 degrees above dead. It's absolutely creepy when you jog up a flight of steps and there is NO effect on your heart rate. When the cat startled me, I flinched and that was it. None of the usual momentary ZING/spike that I usually get if something scares me. Nada. I am feeling like a dead parrot. The name of this brilliant drug - Nadalol. How's that for poetically ironic. Ought be called "Nada-response"

Amy,
I forget- how long have you been on this med? Have you told your doc about the side effects you're getting? Are you emotionally numb as well as physically numb? You mentioned insomnia. Oh no!! How long has that been going on? is it making the Migraines worse? I know when my sleep pattern gets thrown off, I may as well just break out the Migraine welcome mat I hate hate hate hate side effects. I'm personally dealing with my fair share right now, and I know how frustrating it can be. Hugs and anti-side effect vibes! Jamie Forum Moderator |

Definitely call your doc and get checked out. I know what you mean about the heart rate thing. I went quite hypothyroid while I was on Inderal, and I experienced the slow heart rate and the inability to get it back up to normal. I couldn't really jog the stairs, though, because I was getting too winded with just walking. It could also be affecting your pulse rate. I didn't have numb lips with my beta blocker, though. The only time I had that happen was with the hypocalcemia episode I had once.

The doctor's response was - as long as you're not passing out, keep taking it, else you're giving up too soon because it might work. My pulse is down to 55 and I haven't even taken today's dose yet.

Amy,
Hummmm, not the response I would have thought you would get. I do have a suggestion that may or may not work for you. My insurance has a 24 hour help line staffed by RN's. I can call with questions regarding symptoms, whether I should be seen by a doctor, so to the ER, etc. I've only used the service once or twice, but I have to say the results have been great. Does your insurance offer any thing like that? Also is the doctor perscribing this your primary care or a neurlogist? And of course I would call my sister the nurse also. She always takes her baby sisters calls!!! Take care Amy. |

Amy,
When my ex doctor told me something along these lines when Cymbalta landed me in the ER for vomitting all night - he said "cut the capsule in half and continue to take it" Umm.....1. it's a capsule so it's got little beads of medication in it, how am I supposed ti "cut" it and get the same dose every time. and 2 - does the fact that I went to the ER over a drug make you think for one second I'm going to continue to take it on ANY level? Yeah, that is why he is now fired doctor.

Amy,
Did you take the medication today? How are you feeling? Is your doctor who is prescribing this your neurologist? I'm worried about you. I've done a bit of reading and the side effects you are having are not your usual run of the mill side effects. I wish there was another doctor you could speak with about this. It just does not sound right. Keep us posted on how you are. |

Cindy,
Today was day 3 on 20 mg of nadolol. The guy who prescribed it is a neurologist. He's part of the Brighton Research group. I wish somebody could give me a numerical answer - like if your heart rate goes below this number - you should worry. I have one of those cheapy blood pressure monitors that also tells your heart rate. I bought it as a kind of "fake-um-up" way of trying approximate biofeedback. I don't know how accurate it is. I'm feeling a bit like the prop in the dead parrot sketch. Whack, whack, whack, oh you stunned Sigh. It's not keeping the migraines away either, but then supposedly that's not a valid observation unless I take it for at LEAST 30 days. Amy |
