I got to dig in the dirt this weekend too. It is theraputic isn't it? I even mixed up worm compost to add to some plants as I planted them. They should do really well with that added. I have all but 2 plants in I've bought.

I have 3 orchids that should arrive tomorrow or Wednesday. It will be so great to get them settled in the house.

I threatened to do this almost 2 months ago - but I finally figured out how! Here's my front flower bed - with the hydrangeas in full bloom and the annuals we planted grown up some.

I love blue hydrangeas in the summer time! They make me feel cool on the hottest day!

I've actually been working in my front yard off and on for a few weeks. I have 2 new rose bushes planted and a new one that I will put in soon, too. I did two planters on the porch since we don't have a lot of space.

I weeded and mulched, and I'm now considering tearing down our retaining wall for a new stone one, and thinking about a garden around our pear tree...I'd love to have a front yard garden but I am afraid I will bite off more than I can chew.

My firm goal for this fall is to tear the back yard up and get it going on a nice garden, though. I have no idea where to start! I bought some magazines to help me get an idea but I have to read bit by bit and take it all in since I am still researching roses. I'm marking pages and things like that to help me form some ideas. I guess I'd need to write things down and plan it out on paper, so I know which plant is where and which ones would be best together as far as care conditions go...

The rose bushes actually keep me pretty busy right now. I have a lot of them, and will maybe think of doing some groundcover for them soon too.

Sounds nice Leeloo! I love roses. Our are not in the sunniest spot but the idea of moving them is way too much for me!

It's good to have an overall plan and then take it one small piece at a time. If I was ever "done" I don't know what I'd do with myself!

Megs, your garden is lovely. It seems like a beautiful place to sit and enjoy a tall class of iced tea.

Leeloo, my hat is off to you and the roses. I love them, but I've not had the nerve to try putting them in my yard. (I'm a low-maintenance gardener.)

My herbs are robust this year. I'm fighting something munching on my basil though.

I also found some bright flowers (orange marmalade crossandras) and purplish foliage (Perisian Shield) to include in the shade area of the yard. Oh, the yellow daylilies look cheerful around the lavender. It's all just rather small, not a knock-out block of color like Megs!

Happy digging!

Liz - sounds pretty! I think day-lilies and lavender sounds great together! BTW, this is only a knock-out block of color because of the hydrangeas! Planted them 3 years ago, feed 'em 3 or 4 times, make sure thye have enough water and they just grow like crazy. Eventually they may fill that whole bed.
