I don't even know where to start here:
Migraine Personality, anyone? Sometimes I just like to surf the web and see what comes up. it's sad. I have nothing better to do. And ScalpelorSword had me all fired up again (yeah, he told some blog commentators that he couldn't figure out WHY migraines could be considered for disability!) so I chewed him out again and then went on my way....to find this. I snerked. And snerked some more. Now I just need to figure out how to appropriately put into words what I am thinking. I am developing a migraine, however, maybe I am pushing myself too hard, darn that aggressive Type A personality! www.aloofelf.blogspot.com www.twitter.com/leeloosmigraine My disabling chronic illness is more real than your imaginary medical expertise. |

Ok, seriously - I can't tell if this person is trying to help or just be a wise cracker - the whole "some people believe Migraine is genetic" Um, hasn't that been PROVEN??!!!??!!!
And I could have sworn I saw the word CURE on this blog too! Yet, no place to comment? Maybe I missed it. HEY let's all join this woman's forum! I was very pleased with Megs' E-Course. I wholeheartedly recommend hers. It gave me an idea for a series of columns based on what I learned. Maybe I'll do the same for this woman but from...uh...a different perspective... Edit: Oooooo...."Six Things They Won't Tell You About Migraine"

Of course the underlying situation is still there. My genes aren't changing themselves any time soon... Okay the migraine personality stuff is stereotypical and we could probably have a poll on each of her assertions and find that its a fifty-fifty on what is true of the personality. It is also scary that she seems to think that genetics isn't part of the picture. I also have problem with the "cure" angle. However, what she is talking about may have some validlity from the viewpoint of the chemical effects on the body some of these things. I think there is a lot of positive in what she is writing than not. She is talking about a process of prevention that isn't always perfect--she still gets headaches there just not three day events. So if we read further into what she talks about she acknowledges its not 100%. She does a good job of describing that migraines are a neurological event. I learned a lot about the different parts of the neurological system. In fact I would really be interested to know what her five areas are. It might be interesting to get a copy of her book and write a review of it. |

Go for it! In Today's Lesson, we learn:
Egads--we're all unhealthy! Who knew that getting healthy was all there was to healing migraine?? Wonder what Avoid a Migraine, Stop a Migraine is? I'll put my body up against her "three simple things". I have the best diet of home-grown vegetables on earth. My mother has been organically gardening since the 1970s. I don't even know what she means by "let it do its work". I've never stopped my body from functioning--I don't even know how to do that except by initiating death. When she says "help it to get rid of any wastes" she's probably referring to an old wives' tale that I had to endure when I was growing up--that migraine was caused by constipation. Don't know of any research done on it but for me, no amount of laxatives heals or cures or stops or treats a migraine attack. I am so 'cleansed' I even use crystals to cleanse. Crystal therapy can cleanse places you never knew were dirty. Honestly, I don't see anything new or special about her 'system'. So far it sounds like migraine management to me, which isn't a healing or a cure. basilar-type migraine, MAV, BPPV, migraine with and without aura, cluster headaches, but no tension headaches! Something just gets under my skin with the phrase "making Migraines".

And I know this is TMI, but my problem is the complete opposite where that is concerned, so it honestly makes no sense to me to say that constipation is a culprit in triggering my attacks. That "making migraines" phrase rubs me the wrong way, too. Exactly MW: Sounds like migraine management to me!!! That's all I think that this is good for. Her chemical background she is able to give you a little more of the chemistry working. Avoid a migraine, Stop a Migraine was the original name of her book. Lesson 1 sounds like a infomercial for her book. Mary in NM |

The six parts names: Temporary Inconvience, Permanent Improvement You Are One The Lucky Ones Can a Migraine Be Healing? What's In Your Head Matters Food is Better Than Medicines He Who Hesitates Is Lost To, Sandra Felder Oh no, I guess that I will be permanently inconvinced. I must not be one of the lucky ones because migraines haven't healed me. I'm not sure what's in my head, does that matter? Medicines seem to be helping me and a lot of foods trigger the darn things. And I guess I am hopelessly lost because I am hesitating. Actually, I am not. I am making the decisive decision to delete your emails and definitely not buy the book. Mary in NM |
