I was reading a book (teri's book) on migraines and noticed that this person got a migraine as early as 6. I was curious if that is the youngest age a person can get migraine's or not?

No. Even infants can have Migraines. It's really hard to diagnose in children, especially before they can talk. One of our granddaughters had her first at 2-1/2.

Teri,
Hi, wow 2-1/2 oh i'm so sorry. I had no idea they could get them that young. When I read your story in your book. I was shocked about hearing about getting it at 6. But Knowledge is power! That is for sure! Thanks for letting me know.

My granddaughter went into status migrainous(sort of a constant migraine) at 4. It is so tough when they are little because they don't understand what is wrong and can't really tell you what is going on.

Pittypat is my Mom, and told me about this site. My daughter (5) has a pretty severe case of migraines. She still gets periods of status migrainosis, even now. Her pediatric neurologist who specializes and only sees children with headaches said that it is pretty rare for a girl her age to have such a severe case.

We are making a change in her medicines now and hopefully they will help. She starts kindergarden in a week and for many reasons I am very nervous. I am so glad to find this site as there are many of the things we are going through discussed here. I wish I had found it back when my daughter was 4 and first diagnosed.

As we were establishing her on medication, her condition was progressing and it was the scariest thing I have ever been through. Having never had a mirgraine, hers encompased things I had never heard as being part of the migraine process. We are considering seeing a psychologist to help us deal with everything. She is a bit regressed and seems to be pretty angry at times.

Hello and welcome!

I'm sorry you, your daughter, and the rest of your family are going through so much. It's great that you have an actual pediatric Migraine specialist. I see you're in Texas -- is it Dr. Linder?

Please, if there's anything we can do, let us know?

Welcome again,

It is Dr. Linder. We first saw another wonderful pediatric neurologist who I really liked. He had trained in residency with Dr. Linder and when we moved to the Dallas area he recommended him to us. We still keep our originsl Dr. informed. Dr. Linder was wonderful too. I hear people travel from other states to see him. He started her on Nadolol so that we could (after 5 weeks) decrease and hopefully stop her Topapmax. She is on a high dose of that 25mg twice a day. She is also on Depakote 125 mg 2 in the morning and 3 at night. She is a fairly petit five year old too. She has many side effects from the medicines but her migraines are too severe to have a lot of options. Incidentally- if I have a question do I start a new forum? I have a bunch and I don't want to high jack someone elses forum. Thanks for the warm welcome!!!!!
