Well, so far, I guess so good. I've been taking the 50 mg at night, and I'll step up to twice a day in a few more days.

The main side effects I notice are sleepiness and dizziness. I took one earlier in the evening (before dinner) yesterday to see how well I could function. I fell asleep in mid sentence talking on the phone with my dad. I am hoping that the sleepiness part gets better, especially since I"ll have to take one before work-- and before my 90 minute drive to work. I cannot be falling asleep on the road. I might, depending on how I feel after a week, keep on the 50 mg to let my body adjust, hopefully. I really, really want this to work.

I got to chat with my grandmother the other day, and she's trying topamax, but is having a heck of a time with side effects. Frowner Mainly the memory loss/confusion type of stuff. She's still on a low dose and is also hopeful that the side effects get better. (most of the women in my family suffer from migraines-- if ever anyone doubted there was a genetic link, just look at my family....)

Hopefully the side effects will wear off soon as your body gets acclimated to the Lyrica. Has it helped the migraines yet? I know it is kind of early, just curious if you see improvement yet...thanks for keeping us posted!

Fingers Crossed on not being so sleepy!

Hi! We both are pretty much starting Lyrica at the same time. Smiler I started mine on Thursday pm.

Although, I think we have a different increase schedule. I'm taking mine at night before I go to bed. I'll be on 50mg for a month and then 100mg for a month.

My specialist said that a theraputic dose for Lyrica can be anywhere between 200-600mg. Of course, this is just fyi b/c each person is different. On another one of my meds (for another condition), a theraputic dose is 15mg, but I'm taking 7.5mg and it works for me!

I haven't noticed a difference yet-- but I'll see when this next front comes through if it's helped or not-- though I know that won't be a real test of it because 1. I'm just starting it and it can take a month to work and 2. I'm not at the therapeutic dose yet.

I'm still really, really hopeful though. It DOES seem to have toned down my neck pain, and the weird tingling/shooting pains in my right fingers are better as well(I broke my wrist a month ago and it isn't healing). So, if it works..... OMG... that would be so wonderful

I want to get excited, but on the other hand, I'm afraid to get too hopeful and excited and then have it not work. Frowner

I did better with the drowsiness today. Smiler

We are on a different schedule-- I'm taking 50 mg. for a week, then 100 mg. for a week, and then up to 150 mg. He's hoping 150 mg. is a therapeutic dose for me (I'm also pretty small, so sometimes I can't handle high doses)

Still.... even if all it does is end up helping my neck pain-- if it really does help my neck pain, that would help many of the migraines.

Actually, you sometimes have to take a med for three months to really know if it will work for you. Discouraging and frustrating, I know. On the other hand, the meds sometimes do work faster. My Inderal "kicked in" for me after only a week.

Well, it's day 5 on the Lyrica. I'm not as drowsy as I was before, so that's really good! I am still a little spacy, but that also isn't too bad. I am a bit constipated though, but that's not a deal-breaking side effect. I talked to the neuro on the phone today, and he's pleased that the side effects haven't been bad and said I could try to bump up to 100 mg/day if I wanted, so I took a dose this morning, and will take another tonight.

It's currently raining outside, a nice big front has come through, and our weather has gone from 20 degrees to mid 50's today, and supposedly 60's by tomorrow. Time for a huge puker of a migraine with front like that (usually the bigger the front/swing/pressure change the worse the migraine).

I have a slight headache now, but a heck of a lot less than I expected with this front. I really hope it stays like this!!!

The horrible tingling/burning in my fingers/wrist is also gone, even though the swelling and nerve compression is still going on, so I think it has to be the lyrica.

My neck is also feeling better.

I am hopeful.... so so hopeful.....I know even with a great preventative I'll have some breakthroughs... but any reduction in frequency/severity would SO be worth it!

I'm so happy your side effects are slowly starting to diminish and you have made it through the front ok. Fronts are a horrible trigger for me too.

Keep the hope alive, sounds like you are doing better already!!! Thumbs Up

Thanks for continuing to keep us posted!

Hey, guys - I just saw this thread...

I also just posted on this Med. folder...

I just started Lyrica last night - 50mg's, I believe, at bedtime... then after 5 days - up to 100 mgs, then 5 days later, up to my full dosage - 150 mgs...

They took me off of Topamax, so - I'm hoping this'll help (Topamax made me WAAAAY too manic!!!). I discontinued Tompamax as of yesterday, as well...

Group Hug to all!

Well, I'm fighting a little migraine tonight. Luckily, it's a little one. I've had sinus headaches that were much worse. We have a HUGE front moving through. Tomorrow, we are supposed to have highs of 70. SEVENTY!! In FEBRUARY!! It's supposed to be 30! Then the temperature drops 30-40 degrees for a high near 40 on Thursday. ICK! Crazy weather! Mom's really having a hard time with this one, and I can understand why, the big fronts are the worst. I'm hoping that the reason it's not bad is because of the Lyrica. It would be unusual to have a front this big come through and me NOT to have a real agonizing full blown nausea/vomiting/left side nonfunctioning/vision loss migraine. I hope it stays like this and doesn't get worse-- or at least not as bad as it normally would!

Uck, that weather sounds awful. I'm hoping Fingers Crossed you make it through the front without too much ick!

Hey guys...

I was just wondering how everyone's doing, that's on Lyrica...

I just uppped my dose to 100 mg's at bedtime (after 5 days at 50mg's)...

When I wake up, I'm in SUCH a "brain fog," it's insane... I'm kind of dizzy, and VERY foggy... there's no way I could drive right now... it does, or did yesterday, go away after I've been up for a few hours, but - man! Frowner

So - from the earlier posts, it sounds like other people are having these side effects, too, huh?

For anyone else, is it making your emotions more than they should be? A few nights ago, I got SO upset, when I shouldn't have... like, I even contemplated suicide.

Don't worry - I'm over that, but it was scary... I know some meds can make you have suicidal thoughts...

I'm just frustrated... hopefully this feeling will go away soon...

Hey Elizabeth,

That must've been scary having those suicidal feelings. Group Hugs to you. Make sure you let your doc know ASAP about those suicidal thoughts and your concern that it may be related to the med. I had a med one time that made me suicidal and didn't know it was the med causing it. It was such a relief when I got off of it. Please, keep in touch with your doc about that.

I'm still on 50mg. I've been on it since Jan 31 and I'll be bumping up to 100mg after a month. For a couple hours after I wake up, I feel "brain foggy" and dizzy too. It's kinda almost like I wanna shake my head and make it better, but I can't. Mine also improves after a couple hours.

I have lots of hope that this "brain foggy" side effect will go away after awhile. I've had other meds where some side effects did eventually go away. Fingers Crossed

Group Hugs to you hon.

Kelly
