My son has been taking amitryptiline for several months. He was recently increased to 100mg with no side effects. The Dr. ordered blood work before we increased it from 40mg to see what level was in his blood. That blood work showed <25 which means it was barely detectable. We just checked it again last week and it's still the same. The Dr. said he must be metabolizing the drug quickly.
The odd part of this is that my son is starting to get a LOT better. I'm puzzled how a drug that is hardly showing up in his system is helping him at all??? Any thoughts? Jean Ann |

I was started on 25mg... It started to show promise at that level.
Perhaps the new raise in the med is bringing the amitriptyline steady state levels up to what would be considered medically significant? IE- maybe at the lower dose, even less was remaining in the systme? |

Maybe, too, his brain is releasing a steadier stream of endorphinsbecause of the running?
