I have suffered with migraines for over 27 years, believe me when I say that my Dr and I have tried everything we know to do. Just recenly I have an esi injection which lasted about 2 weeks. I finaly just ask him to do an occipital nerve block to see if I could have any success with that. Well it worked for about 3 weeks and now they are back with full force, I think I also need to tell you that I have a collapsed disc in my cervical spine with bones spurs and some nerve compression. Needless to say that doesnt help bc Migraines start in you neck and with me already having neck problems it just makes it worse. My dr has suggested to me about getting my occipital nerve destroyed, bc that is mostly but not evey time where my migraines are. I do on a few occassions have then in the cervical area around c-4 c-, my trapazoid area stays tight continuously there for causing headches as well. my question is has anyone every had or heard of an occipital nerve being destroyed and if so please send me some informatiom on it bc i cant seem to find anything on this. your Help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Anita

Hi Anita,

Migraine is a genetic neurologic disease. Neck issues can certainly trigger a Migraine attack.

I've never heard of having your occipital nerve destroyed. You may want to check our list of patient recommended Migraine specialists. You can find that HERE.

Welcome to the forum, Anita.

No, I've never heard of getting an occipital nerve destroyed.

Do check out the list of migraine specialists that Nancy linked you to. There are so many possible preventive meds:

that it simply isn't possible to have tried "everything."

Take care of yourself.
