Hi everyone.
I was told that Sansert is my next option, but reading all the warnings about it, it is not an easy decision.
So do any of you have any helpfull info on it?

I don't know if we have any info on our site on it. I was searching the web - I see that it is a canada based drug? So maybe it goes by another name here in the U.S?

I'm sure our guru Teri will have some helpful info for you!

Sorry I couldn't be of more help!

It's called Sansert, here, too.

I know it's a drug you have to take breaks from. I don't see it in our meds info. I can alert Teri that you have a question about it.

Eva,

Neither Sansert nor its generic equivalents are even available in the US any longer. They were discontinued because most doctors hate them so much.

It is still available in some other countries, but truthfully, I've never heard of it being helpful for even one person.

I did find the prescribing info online from when it was available in the use. It carries a strong warning:

WARNING
Retroperitoneal Fibrosis, Pleuropulmonary Fibrosis and Fibrotic Thickening of Cardiac Valves May Occur in Patients Receiving Long-term Methysergide Maleate Therapy. Therefore, This Preparation Must Be Reserved for Prophylaxis in Patients Whose Vascular Headaches Are Frequent and/or Severe and Uncontrollable and Who Are Under Close Medical Supervision.

You can read the whole document HERE.

Just want you to have all the info you can.

Please keep us posted?

I had an allergic reaction to Sansert. I wanted to try the one without the allergens but my neurologist said it wouldn't be worth it, he didn't believe, so I was never able to give it a good go.

I'm not sure what you mean by "the one without the allergens?" Sansert is one drug, methesergide, just the one ingredient.

Eva, Hon, did you see your other doctor yet to discuss what 2nd neuro wants to do?

Have you thought about the Sansert and decided what YOU want to do?

I know this must not be easy - but know that there are still other options out there besides this one. You know that.

Keep us posted ok?

Hey Eileen,
I am going to see my doc on Monday, so after that discussion I will know.

As far as me deciding, I don't know. I feel like if I don't try it the "what if" will always be in my head. Many years ago my mom used to take something similar, byt it was abortive not preventive, and it did help her a bit. I just don't know. The last 2 weeks were hell, 4/5 almost every day.

Hey Eileen,
no, you did not miss my update. I was a bit down yesterday, decided to update today. So here goes:

HE did not like the idea of Sansert either and decided to put me back on Nortriptyline (starting to be a popular thing here). I am starting with 10mg, in a week increase to 10 mg, and after that we'll see. He also decided to keep me on Sibelium, thinking that for me it will be a combo that works, not a single med. Finally !!!!

He did not say a thing about the fact that for the past 2 or 3 weeks my migraines are every day 4/5 to 5/5. I do get a break now and then and Imitrex works for the day, so I am not in SM. It is just sucking the life out of me.

I'll see him again in 3 weeks to see what is next.

Well between you and I, and well, the rest of the forum Wink I'm kinda glad he didn't like the Sansert idea and went with a combo instead.

I hope this works out for you!!!!

Looks like a lot of us are changing it up recently. And you'll be right behind me with the Nortiptyline. I am a week into Amitriptyline so we shall see.

I'm glad to hear he wants you back in 3 weeks too!

Good Luck I will have my Fingers Crossed for you!!!!!

Hi Eva,

I'm glad to hear your doctor is changing things around again. The Sansert is a scary medicine! (When my last doc recommended it, I decided it just was not the med for me...Soon after that, I went to see my new doctor.)

It's easy to get discouraged, but please keep fighting! You doctor is probably on the right track--you may need a combo to see improvement. And it may take some time...But you can make it! And we are here to help--always!

Thinking of you today! Group Hug
