Hi Everyone, I'm new around here and have been lurking for a couple days trying to absorb the gobs of info offered here! I've been reading non-stop!

Well, I was diagnosed with Migraines almost 2 yrs ago by my Internist(Altho I've had unbearable headaches since I can remember). Now all this time later I'm frustrated and feel like I'm back at where I started... Headache for 5 days Head Banging I'm wondering if I've developed a MOH so I've stopped all pain meds. Its actually a little better, more tolerable today, surprisingly.

So I've done my research trying to find a new doc, "Specialist" and luckily there's a large group of Neuro's who specialize in headaches within 15 miles of me! Who knew??

Wish me luck in my new endeavors... Any advice for a new neuro patient? Also, does anyone have a good headache log you wouldn't mind sharing? I can't decide what factors are important to keep track of. My only triggers I've been able to identify so far (in 2 years) is weather changes and menstruation.

THanks in advance for your well wishes!!

Karen

Welcome Karen!

I grew up in Jackson, Michigan, and went to school in Ann Arbor! My mom still lives in Jackson. I bet you've got some snow there, right?!

One of the hosts will give you the "official" welcome tomorrow probably, including a link to our recommended migraine diary. So glad you found a headache specialist so close by. It makes an amazing difference because there's so much to know that a regular neuro can't really keep up with it.

My menstrual cycle and now menopause are my primary triggers too, with flickering light and weather as close runners-up.

Good luck and glad you're here.

(I'm 55, have had severe migraines for over 4 years due to menopause, plus I have fibromyalgia. I take Imitrex plus Anaprox as an abortive and am working with my migraine specialist to find a preventive. I keep a detailed migraine diary and have made significant lifestyle changes to reduce my risk of migraines.)

Hello Karen and welcome!
Group Hug
I am glad you found us. Believe me, when you are living with the BEAST, this is the place to be. There is so much to be learned here - from the articles and resources, and certainly from the people. Everyone here is dealing with pretty much the same illness, so we are all very understanding and caring. I really don't know what I would do without this group.

I am glad you found the Doctor/Specialist section and found some close to you. We do have a great migraine diary on here, but I really don't know how to post a link to it. (I keep saying that, I really do need to learn that - ha ha!) I am sure someone who does know how will come along soon. You really should continue to browse the site - there is so much information here.

It is good that you finally got a diagnosis, but it looks like you are in need of a good preventative plan. Are you on any preventative medications? I also see you said you think you may be suffering for MOH. Stopping the offending medication is the right thing to do, but you need to talk to your doctor about it and do it correctly.

Once again, welcome. I am sure one of the Moderators will be around soon to give you a welcome and more information.

I look forward to getting to know you.
And I love your quote at the end of your post.

Thanks for the warm welcome, ladies! Thanx

LauraSue, yes we got some snow in the past 2 days, but the RAIN and lightening have taken care of all of it! Eeker

Sherry, yes I'm on propranolol 240mg daily. Worked great for a while, but my last few headaches have been stronger and more stubborn. I'll be so releived to see a specialist, hopefully (s)he'll be a gem and I'll be a new woman! Thumbs Up

Thanks for your support, I'm off to surf the site some more!

I also live in SE Michigan. I am currently going to the MIND clinic in Farmington Hills. I've only been going there for the past 2-3 months but so far I have been very impressed. My neurolgist there seems to be understanding about migraines and pain in general. Now, while they haven't stopped my migraines yet, I've been happy with them so far. I can give you their number if you're interested.

That is too funny. My doctor is also Dr. Pierce. I've been happy with him so far. Like I said the migraines are still an issue but I feel like we're working on them. My only complaint with him is that he's hard to get into and see...but that's true for most neuro's.

My best advice when you go there is try and get some form of orientation. They offer a ton of services but no one really explained any of that when I first went there. It's been through trial and error that I've found out how they do things and how to get things done. For example, you can go there for "headache treatments" but you have to call ahead first, then Dr. Pierce will say if you can come in, and then if you get his ok you can come in and get a headache treatment. No one really explained that process at my first appointment.

The other thing I've been really happy about with Dr. Pierce is that he seems to understand things and is also willing to call in Rx's. My last neuro would never call in Rx's and that was a big pain.

Hi Karen,

Welcome to the discussion forum at MyMigraineConnection. We are so glad you found us.

Migraine is a genetic neurolgocial disease having flare ups - the Migraine attack. Anatomy of a Migraine contains information on the four phases of a Migraine attack that is very useful.

Medication Overuse Headache (MOH) occurs when we use certain prescription and OTC medications more than 2-3 times during a one week period. The only way to stop MOH is to stop the offending drug cold turkey. Medication Overuse Headache - When the Remedy Backfires

Please let us know how we can help you further, ok? We look forward to hearing more from you.
