since i started amitriptyline in october, things have been going pretty good. i don't get auras any more since i started taking it, so it's harder to tell when i'm getting a migraine. the number of migraines had gone down a tone and the few i got weren't so bad and could usually be taken care of with a few advil.

then there was yesterday.

i woke up for class at 8 and a second after i opened my eyes it felt like someone hit me over the head with a 2 by 4. teh pain had made cose friends with nausea, and light and sound sensitivity (the light and pain thing usually isn't as bad as it was yesterday). i took a couple advil and...nothing happened. they didn't work and it was too late for imatrex.

the morning was cloudy, which i was thankful for, but then it cleared up by noon (darn you sunny California). I went back to my room, ate a little lunch (though i didn't want to) and slept for an hour or so. The thing didn't go away until like 9 last night, a good thirteen hours (though after the nap i did feel better).

i'm hoping it was a rare thing and that i'll go back to the occasional, not so bad, taken care of with a couple advil versions of the migraine. i'm scared that the migraines have found a way around the amitriptyline and now with the removal of the aura, i'm going to miss the 20-40 minute window for the imatrex to work.

a don't know, thanks for the opportunity to vent to people who know. good luck to you all, hope you have many and long good days.

Crossing my fingers that this was just a minor hiccup, and the "normal" migraines- the not so strong ones- return as your only migraine beast! Good Luck

One breakthrough migraine doesn't mean that your preventives have pooped out. Look on the positive side!

Do you really have such a short window for the Imitrex to work? How crummy.
Mine works best if I catch things early, but it can help even if I wake up with a #8.

Here's hoping today is a better day.
