I had a bad one last thursday, ended up in the ER. The weird thing is I'm still having the migraine hangover, dizzy, wiped out, almost prodrome-feeling. My spatial orentation is all off, I can't read, can make decisions that involve multiple steps or choices. anyone have the after effects of a bad one last almost a week?

Yes, I've had them drag on for close to a week before. Usually it's either because I've been hit with a really nasty migraine, or else something else, such as thyroid levels are off. The hangover stuff hangs on a lot if I've been really busy and I've run myself down to near exhaustion, too.

I had two migraines in three days last week (I usually only have one a week), and ended up with the migraine hangover the rest of the week. Totally lame. Hope that you get past yours soon.

Yuck, so sorry, so many in a row. Hope you're better soon.

Any suggestionsfrom anyone on how to help the hangover healing process? Drink fliuds? Vitamins? Chocolate? Bubble baths? Seriously, anything that worked for you. I can't be a zombie much longer. Head Banging

You might talk to your doctor about dexamethasone. I had two neuros, one a migraine guy, recommend it for me for migraine hangover. It didn't work great for me, but I figure it must work for some people if doctors are recommending it.

I tend to get migraine hangovers when I've been to the ER and they give me Dilaudid or another heavy narctoic. I also will get them sometimes if I combine a triptan with a narcotic.

My migraine hangovers are always the day after, just tired and grumpy (sometimes DH & kids can't tell the difference LOL)

However, because of my most recent bout, I am still exhausted but try to keep on going, like the little battery bunny!!

Zzzz'z - instead of a yawn...we need a pic for that....

I had made myself a note to post about this earlier today! I am curious to find out what you all do to combat prodrome/postdrome symptoms. They really affect me at work - I tend to be kind of a space cadet sometimes before or after a migraine. Last week, I made a lot of mistakes at work that I didn't find until several days later, and had to spend a lot of time going back over everything and cleaning it up. I can't afford to be out of work everytime I have these symptoms though. How do you all cope? I only just started keeping a journal, so hopefully that will help me figure out the patterns. Do you have any tips or tricks for coming back to reality?

Sleep is the best cure for me. If I can get a one hour nap the next day it really helps. I read in one of the books I have that that's pretty common.

Also, I'm usually off my feed the next day so anything that tempts my appetite helps. The best thing I've found is rice pudding. DH gets it at the grocery store. It comes in 6 little individual containers. Heaven. Also Leibniz butter cookies and diet ginger ale.

As for the cognitive dysfunction, if caffeine isn't one of your triggers, studies have shown that moderate amounts actually do improve mental ability. I've read that the day after a migraine your tested IQ is actually LOWER by five to ten points, so it's not your imagination, it's real!

Speaking of which, I just realized this was an old post!!! Too funny!!! Red Face

(I'm 55, have had severe migraines for over 4 years due to menopause, plus I have fibromyalgia. I take Imitrex plus Anaprox as an abortive and am working with my migraine specialist to find a preventive. I keep a detailed migraine diary and have made significant lifestyle changes to reduce my risk of migraines.)
