Day 7 and the pain doesn't stop. Got calls in to the neuro and hopeing to hear something back soon or I am going to have to break down and go to the ER. This morning the whole side of my face looks puffy and my vision is really messed up. There has got to be something they can do, I can't seem to remember it ever getting this bad in the past 10 years since it all started...

Charlie,

You need to get yourself to an ER - NOW!!

Staying in pain with a Migraine for 3 days in a row (72 hours) with less then a 4 hour break in pain (not including sleep) is called Status Migrainous and is very dangerous!

See this article: Status Migrainous - The Basics

I am very concerned by the fact you state the side of your head is swollen. Please! Please! Please! Seek attention immediately!!!!

Here is some of our forms to make an ER trip a little easier.

Emergency Migraine and Headache Care: Forms to Help

IV Treatment of Refractory Migraines

Ignoring Migraines and Headaches Can Spell Danger

And lastly - maybe it's time for a new doctor - if they are not returning your calls and do not think your condition is worth immediate attention.

Please keep us post on how you are!

Charlie,
Please do get to the ER. 7 days is much to long to go in a continuous cycle!

Getting help for this is so important! Trust me the folks at the ER will have much better chances of getting through to your neuro then you probably do anyway! It is not a trip that anyone wants to take but print off the info that Eileen listed and take it with you.

Please do keep us posted and get some treatment asap!

/hugs and positive thoughts,
Julie

Charlie,
I can only echo Julie and Eileen to get to the ER. They will have better luck getting through to your doctor.

I'm hoping that by now, you are on the way to the ER or already there. I know you may be there a while. When you get home and feel well enough, give us an update--we'd love to help you celebrate a broken migraine.

Hey guys and gals I'm home. I can't say it's completely over but at least now I don't feel like my head would be better off belonging to someone else. Also can't say that the ER treated it as very important. Their actual words were, we have a girl with a headache, its not major. Almost left at that point but they took me right back to a room. After 24 hours of reglan and demoral and a visit from my neuro's partner the wrote me another script for a different pain drug and sent me home with orders to call the neuro back in a few days to try a new preventative. So I am home, I can function again. Will spend the rest of today sleeping and then back to work tomorrow. Thanks all of you!

Sorry about the "There's a girl with a headache" comment. Those are never what you want to hear in a ER when you're there in pain.

Glad to hear that you did get treatment though, and you're back home sleeping it off.

Feel better!
