Can anyone in the chicago area let me know what they think of the Diamond Headache clinic or other recommendations. I have called to get an appt.,changing for the first time from a neuro I have been seeing for several years. Now I am getting cold feet, and feeling disloyal-not sure if there is more to offer me. Am on nothing right now and miserable, but was given little hope anything else might help. Any rec.'s for chicago area? LK

lk,

I understand how hard it can be to change your neuro but if you are not happy and your migraines are not getting any better perhaps it is time to make the change. It isn't a matter of loyalty, it is a matter of getting you well again. Is your neuro a headache specialist?

I have not had personal experience with Diamond Headache Clinic but if I remember correctly, other members have. They should be able to provide more insight for you.

Have you had a chance to look at doctors recommended by members?

All my best and please keep us posted Good Luck

I have had good experiences with Diamond, my Doc has been working with for 4 years now trying to get my migraines under control, so far nogood, but my Doc has gone out of her way to help me. Even as far as tracing down the phone number of the ER I was in! Anyway just my 2 cents.

If your doctor does not have anything else to offer you, it is definitely time for a change. It is not a reflection on your current doctor's character or competence. Preventive regimens can be found for nearly all migraineurs. You need to see someone with fresh ideas to find the regimen for you.

You will never know whether the Diamond Clinic is the place for you unless you try it. We have other members who may be able to share their personal experiences, but ultimately, it has to work for you.

Good luck! Keep us posted.

I have to agree with Nutcracker. I will share my personal experience with you, but ultimately it has to work for you. My longer detailed experience is on this thread:

Jefferson Headache cntr vs Diamond Headache Clinic

It is toward the bottom.

Please read what I wrote in the link. In addition to what I wrote there, I want to say that I have gone to Diamond for two years now and really like it. I appreciate the attentiveness of my specialist.

I also appreciate his accessibility during the week if I find myself in a bad spot.

Diamond also has emergency calling hours that I can get of one of the headache specialists on-call during after-hours within 20 minutes of my call. I have called this line twice. The first time the specialist prescribed meds over the phone. The second time she worked with teh ER docs to treat me. They would call her and she would give them "orders" for each med they gave me. And she kept in close contact with them. It made me feel like she cared what happened to me.

Although I love the two of the specialists that I've come into contact with at Diamond, you really won't know til you go for yourself. You truly have to find if they are good fit for you and work well with you.

If you want more info than what I've already given, I'd be happy to provide it. Ask away.

Can I be nosey and ask why you're looking for a specialist? I'm sorry you are so miserable right now. If you feel like your first neuro needed to be fired, then fire 'em. Don't worry about loyalty. You are paying him/her to do you a service!!! If you are not being helped, then you need to find someone whether it is at Diamond or another specialist.

Sending Group Hugs.
