Hi Smiler I suffer from migraines with aura since I am 15 years old. I am now 35 and just got one last night... I have all the goodies like the aura, the numbness, the confusion (can't find the name for things or think straight) before the pain hits. Since I got rid of codeine meds, I have succeeded to remove the vomiting part during a migraine.
However, when a migraine hits, I am totally unable to stay at work. I basically jump like a maniac on my Imitrex + 2 Advil liquid gel and wait for the aura to go away before driving back home. I am lucky my boss understands !!!
I have around 6 to 10 migraines per year, can't really complain. They stress me though... can't really go anywhere without thinking "what if one hits me now?".
Well...that's all I can think of right now...I am glad I found this site Smiler

Welcome to the forum!

You mentioned you only get about 6 to 10 migraines a year? Do you know any of your triggers that may bring them on for you?

Have you been able to identify any prodrome symptoms to figure out when you will get a migraine? I know sometimes I get increased floaters a couple days before, my additude changes, I sometimes get a euphoric feeling....that's a big clue in - when I feel "too good" then I know somethings going to happen.

Please let us know if there is anything we can help you with!

Welcome again! Big Grin

Welcome to the forum family! Flower

I'm almost like Eileen; I don't have visual auras but I do get mood changes-for the good until it hits. I also have a lot of energy and usually cook this huge meal and clean like crazy. I avoid chemicals like bleach even during the "safe" times because it can sometimes trigger a migraine for me. That and weather, lack of sleep and not eating correctly.

Please take a look around the site. It has so much useful information on it, it is truly amazing! If you have any questions, just ask away Smiler

Thank you SO much for the warm welcome and the support.
The major trigger for my migraines is stress and lack of sleep. It must be unusal stress, not the daily stress at work.
Coca-Cola sodas give me headaches but not migraines however I always think that it may build up into one if I continue drinking some !
Yes, before some migraines, I will have a lot of energy, accomplish a lot or be very "eloquent and articulate" at work. Not always though but often enough for me to notice.
I plan on reading a lot from this site and thank you again for your kindness Wink

Actually - stress itself is not a migraine trigger! But it is possible that they sypmtoms of stress are, such as tension type headaches (TTH), or tightness in the shoulder/neck area.

I always thought stress was a trigger for me too, but come to find out, I get tension type headaches, and they are what sometimes trigger the migraine attacks for me, not the stress itself.

Well, what makes me say that it is stress related is that I usually will have a migraine hit me right after a very stressful situation that includes deep emotions, fear, anger or else.

Every migraine I have, I have the aura, the numbness, the speech problem, the confusion, the upset stomach. A migraine which hit me at night around 9:00 pm is more manageable as I can "sleep it off" and generally be feeling good enough to go to work. Of course, I will "drag" all day, be sometimes "out of it", but I can do my job correctly enough.

If the migraine hits during daytime, I am messed up for 2 full days because even if I lay down right after having taken my meds, I cannot sleep.

But anyway...coming back to stress...I had a terrible stressful day recently and I was totally exhausted emotionnally from it. The same night I had a migraine. How could it be related to something else ?

Stress doesn't actually trigger a migraine, but makes us more susceptible to our triggers.

Did your stressfull day at work include skipping or prolonging lunch? Getting up early or going to bed late the night before? Even the glare from the computer screen could be adding to your growing list of triggers that day.

Teri did a great podcast on this topic. I've listened to it quite a few times to let it sink in. Is Stress a Migraine Trigger?

Let me know what you think, ok?
