Migraine

Ok My neuro wants to try to squeeze me in for a nerve pack today to try to break this migraine. Has anyone ever had this done? Will it just stop the pain temporarly or the entire migrine?(auras numbness dizzys etc) Sorry for the urgent title, but she wants me in today and I would like to be more informed! TY all!

Hmmm...Do you think they might have said "nerve block" instead of "nerve pack?" I haven't heard of nerve packs...but I do know quite a bit about nerve blocks!

There is one thing I can think of, I could sneak you into my schedule to have a nerve block done if you like. Basically, it's just some novacaine over a small area of skin over the back of the head - this deadens the nerve, and can help it to reset, so the impulses of continuous pain are broken. It will make your head numb in the back, but that's all. If it works, it works quickly. Would you like me to see if I can get you in tomorrow for that?

Is this what you have had done? does it just stop the pain or ALL the migraine symptoms.

Yep. I've had several, actually! This type of nerve block involves a series of injections at the back of your head/top of your neck. I also often receive injections above my ear and in my eyebrow, as my pain tends to be in the front of my head. The injections can be done on just one side of the head or on both (depending on where your pain is found).

For me, the pain goes away IMMEDIATELY! The numbing medicine the doctor injects works right away and it feels terrific!

Longer term results to the nerve blocks vary--some people don't find them very effective. I rind that I am migraine free for 9-10 days! (For me that's a miracle--I've got chronic migraine and pretty much daily pain without the blocks.)

In my case, my aura continued for a while, but my nausea passed rather quickly. I think I get nauseated because the pain is SO extreme...but the blocks eliminate the pain and allow my whole system to settle down...

aw ty jenny I am a real sissy when it comes to needles. I always beg them to do an IV instead of injections so I only have to have ONE needle lol. helps that the meds i have to get are IV form....
Im a bit scared, but ANYTHING for releif. Ty for the info and hope it works as wlel for me as it does for you!

I need relief from the entire migraine not just the pain so hopefully it helps with all the neurological issues as well as the dizzy and nausea.
