i tried Migranal for the first time. i did the sniffs, about 15 minutes later my arms started to pound on the bed. then my legs. it was crazy! i told my husband that i wanted to get out of here and run. we called the dr. then went into the urgent care clinic. by this time i was lithargic and could barely breath. the dr. didn't seem to be alarmed by my side effects so he gave me 100mg of demerol and phenegren and sent me on my way.
it was so scary! i have never had anything like this happen before. yikes! im never taking that again. and it didn't even work.

Wow, Jennifer, that is scary. I can't believe the ER dr didn't do more for you than that. It seems like if you were having problems breathing, they would have given you something for an allergic reaction?? I never had side effects from Migrinal, but I did from the DHE injections I was given in the hospital. It was crazy, like i was on speed or something. I was VERY fidgety, I had to get up and move. You need to make sure you don't ever get the injections, too, if you had that kind of reaction to the nasal spray.

Have you tried triptans?

Jennifer,
What a scary episode! I've never been on Migrinal before. I hope that you are feeling much better now and that you are feeling much better.

Hi Jennifer,

When you say "pound on the bed," what exactly do you mean? Do you mind if I ask what other drugs, if any, you take? This sounds pretty scary....

It's hard to imagine a doctor not being "alarmed" about a patient who can hardly breathe. I hope you've already been in touch with the doctor that ordered the medication.

Take care.

Hi Jennifer,

You know I meant medications, not drugs, like in "drugs." There is a serious condition, although rare, that can occur with Migrainal. I was trying to get a bit more infor from you about your symptoms.....

sorry it took me so long to respond, thats a good sign, yes im feeling much better.
to answer some questions...im on 500mg of Keppra and 60 mg of Cymbalta.daily. what kind of reation do you know about Nancy?
when i said pounding i mean i was laying on my back and my arms were pounding into the bed and my legs were kicking back and forth. it was bizarre. i remember thinking why am i doing this? why do i want to run? and then i became lathargic. and thats when i couldn't breathe.

i have tried triptans but they don't always work so i was looking for another option.

if i remember correctly DHE is from some kind of haulcinigen (sp?). can anyone clarify that? i thought i remember Teri telling me about it years ago.

the pain in my head wasn't THAT bad but we went to the urgent care clinic because of the reation to the DHE per my doctors request when we called him. i was totally out of it so my husband was doing all the talking. so i really dont know why he didn't take it seriously.

Hello.

Just wanted to add that I tried this at home in the nasal spray form too. I will NEVER EVER try it again. It did not really stop the migraine, but may have reduced it some in severity and length.

For me, the side effects were severe nausea, severe fatigue and tiredness. I felt so bad, I laid in bed for two whole days until that stuff got out of my system. I was almost like I was totally exhausted in my entire body. My entire body and all my muscles were achey.

The funny thing is that I got a DHE injection in the ER once as part of a migraine cocktail (valium, DHE, compazine, and some sort of steroid) and it helped tremendously. I was wiped out for the next two days, but it helped break the migraine cycle I was in and allowed me to go home and rest.

I am sorry this happened to you.

hi jenn glad your doing beter.
I know exactly what you went through. I have done that on several meds! The latset one being compazine last thursday. I was already AT urgent care for the migraine when It did that to me. I was about to tear off my IV had already tore off the oxygen mask. LOL the nuse came ina and called for th dr. They gave me atavan(sp?) and benadryl to help out. I dont remember much of the visit or going home after that Wink I do know that their coctail did NOT work for the migraine. Still going strong over a week later. But anyway your not alone! Numerous meds do that to me! real freeky feeling!
