I have an appointment with an ophthalmologist Monday. My primary dr suggested that rather than my regular optician, because I get a lot of pressure behind my left eye with migraines, and for the past few months I've had increased problems with floaters.

Anyway, has anyone tried those Transition lenses? The ones that get dark outside and lighter when you go inside? I had something like that back in high school (around 1970) and after a while the lenses stayed dark.

I was wondering if these new lenses get dark enough for migraineurs who are out in the sun?

My guess is they don't, but I hate switching from my regular glasses to sunglasses and back again.

Hoping someone has some experience to share.
Thanks.

Jan B.

Jan,

I've never tried the Transitions lenses, so I can't tell you anything from experience.

One thing you do need to be very careful of with sunglasses is to be sure they're coated for both UVA and UVB rays. Here's an article on selecting sunglasses, Good Sunglasses – Vital for Migraine and Eye Health.

Hope this helps!

Hi Jan,

I've used transition lenses for years, and I'm VERY light sensitive. They're ok for the first few years, but after that they tend to lose their effectiveness. Because I'm so light sensitive, I use a pair of sunglasses that go over my transition lenses when I'm out in bright sun (even indoors sometimes) as extra protection. I still think it is worth getting the transition coating but clearly don't think it is sufficient for my needs! Liz FYI

I've heard of the UVA, but not familiar with the UVB. That is very new to me. I will need to read about them so the next time I get sunglasses I know what to look for. It just seems that they all only say UVA on them.

I think I'll wait for a buy one get one free deal and get new regular glasses and prescription sunglasses.

The ophthalmologist found my eye muscles and blood vessels to be healthy. Yeah! But I didn't know they would give me eye drops and I only took the morning off work.

You can guess how I felt Monday night. Wearing sunglasses most of the afternoon at work that are about 2 prescriptions old. I think the old lenses bothered me more than the inability to focus for a few hours.

I just like to think of life as an adventure. Jan B.
