I was wondering if anyone here has used this med as it is brand new to me. My primary dr prescribed it as an alternative to my Zomig when I was having rebound headaches. It is unpredictable as sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, cant figure it out. So I thought Id see if anyone here has any experience with this one before I see my Neuro on the 17th-then I can ask him.
Thanks, Linda [[!##l10n key='TXT_PLATFORM_MODULE_POST_SIGNATURE_HTML' ##] |

Hi LindaP,
Indomethacin is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, NSAID. It is commonly used to treat gout and arthritis. It is not an abortive like Zomig and can't be used as one. Have you tried other tritans? Indomethacin is also used in rarer forms Migraine like Hemicrania Continua - The Basics , and Ice Pick Headaches - The Basics |

Hi Nancy,
Yes the basic abortives I have used are Imitrex, Zomig or Relpax and they all seem to work the same for me- I usually have the Dr prescribe the one my insurance will cover the best. Relpax is the most expensive right now. I learned though I really have to stick to the minimum requirement they give me which is 9 pills a month and lately that hasnt been enough so I am looking for something to relieve the pain inbetween using the triptan (Zomig). I used the Indomethacin twice already this week and it did work but it takes a good 2 hrs and makes me feel really dizzy & tired for awhile. But for now its all I have until I see the doc on the 17th. Looking forward to this appt so I can ask lots of questions! Linda [[!##l10n key='TXT_PLATFORM_MODULE_POST_SIGNATURE_HTML' ##] |

Your insurance might cover two different triptans. At one point, my BCBS was covering Frova, Relpax, and Imitrex NS. All in the same month.
I'm only taking Imitrex now, but BCBS is paying for all three versions at the same time. I get 9 tablets, 6 nasal spray, and 2 injections every month. I don't necessarily use them all. Two doses, a maximum of 3 days a week is my limit to avoid rebound. I used indomethacin several years ago, when I was taking Nardil (MAO inhibitor antidepressant) and couldn't take narcotics or triptans, only DHE, which wasn't reliable. The indomethacin was hit-or-miss, but it was something I could take. My primary care doctor thinks that a med that takes care of a headache in two hours is a success. I hope your neurologist thinks you need something that works faster. Ask about the tiredness and dizziness. They may be common side effects. Hang in there! Gretchen in Mississippi |

Hello
I was wondering if anyone could give me any info about chronic daily headaches. they NEVER go away. I have tried Immitrex injections, triptans, I am on depakote daily now and it's not working. I am allergic to loritab, darvocet, percocet and newbain. So that doesn't leave a whole lot of options. I can do fioricet and demerol, but I hate the way they make me feel not to mention that daily use is not a good thing, but then again I gotta have something!! I know that there other people out there that are going through this so please share info. |
