Well, everybody, I am officially going to call my DHE experience successful!!! Smiler Big Grin Smiler

I had a two day infusion earlier this week and have been migraine free since the start (this is day 4)!!

It's super fantastic to wake up without pain! (For me, migraines usually start in the night.) I've had nice, restful, dream-filled sleep, too! Zzzz'z

I'm going to my doctor's office tomorrow AM to learn to self-inject the DHE as my abortive. Then I'll be good to go!

I know this doesn't "fix" everything, but it's so GREAT to have a respite from migraine--even if it's only for a short while!!

Yeah, I'm glad this worked! I hope the injections go just as well as the infusion.

WooHoo! This is so great! Are you still going no-migraine strong? How was it learning to self-inject the DHE?

Unfortunately, the nasties returned last Friday (5 days later). Pretty bad ones, too! But this DHE experience is still a true victory, as 5 headache free days in a row is FABULOUS for me!!! (I typically have migraine at least 5 days per week!)

I learned to self-inject the DHE on Friday. It's not like Imitrex, where you have an injection pen and just push a button. For DHE, you have an empty syringe and you have to fill it properly and inject yourself with a visible needle. This was really not a big deal for me, as I have had prior injection experience. (I had very difficult pregnancies and needed MANY injections and prolonged IV's at home, so I had done some of this stuff before.)

The doctor showed me how to locate the correct spot in my thigh for the injections site. She taught me how to draw up the right amount of med in the syringe. She didn't have me actually inject the DHE in her office, but she did ask me to plunge the syringe into my thigh in the right spot so she could be sure I could actually do it. It was funny--I did it without hesitation and she was shocked!!! She said most people are very tentative and afraid of inserting the needle...

Anyway, I'm ready to use the DHE at home!! The only problem is, my pharmacy can't get it for 2 weeks--I guess they have to order it special since it's an injectible...

I'm still feeling positive about the DHE. I know my search for preventatives continues, but at least I have another alternative for an abortive!!

Thanks for asking!!!

Fantabulous on the 5 pain free days! That's enough to make me jump for joy too!

I almost wish they had the DHE in the little epi-pen type deal they've got the Imitrex in. I much prefer the DHE to the Imitrex. I don't know if I could be as brave as you with doing the real self injection deal.

Here's to a speedy delivery from your pharmacy Thumbs Up.

P.S. I saw in another thread you are in hiatus on a PhD program. What field? I'm in a masters program in Sociology. Boy this is tough with migraines... How'd you get all the way through PhD course work with them???
