Hi, everyone! Just wanted to take a minute to introduce myself. I just found this wonderful site yesterday, so thought I would plug in and see what it's all about.

I'm in my mid-forties, married, mother of one "child", a teenage son (who detests the use of the word "child", lol), and have had migraines most of my life, but have really suffered an upswing in frequency over the last several months, plus I've added occipital neuralgia to the mix (the joy!), so I'm finally beginning to try to sort things out with medical help. I've had an MRI, so we've ruled out all the sinister possibilities. I'm left with just "normal" migraines, hormone migraines, stress headaches and the lovely neuralgia stuff. Had rebound headaches there for awhile, too, but now that I know how to prevent those, I've been doing better on that front.

Currently I'm on Topamax (my third week in, started at 25mg, went up to 50 this week), and have had steroid injections in the back of my head for the neuralgia, and will be doing that again in a little over a week. At the moment I'm trying to decide whether the "cure" is worse than the "disease".

I'm looking forward to hanging out here and finding out ways to cope, seeing how you all are doing, hearing the success stories and walking beside those of you who are in the same boat (um, that didn't really work as a metaphor, did it?). Thanks to the people who put this site together! It looks great so far!

SN

Hi SN

Love your handle! Only I'd want to be Normally Strange...LOL (a lot of people who know me would probably agree!) Actually, I think that the physical needs and manifestations of migraine disease probably do make us quite -uh- 'distinctive'!

Yeah, I have two of them 6' 5" childs. They don't mind being childs...children have parents who pay for things... Roll Eyes

Anyways, welcome - it's a great site isnt it? I am sure you'll find loads of good info and lots of support here. I was reading in another folder about your ON business - as you say, the cure does sound worse than the condition. But I hope it works for you.

Thank you all! I feel truly welcomed!

My screen name is the title of a song by my favorite singer, Phil Joel. It seemed to fit, since my neuro said my brain was "normal", and yet I feel anything BUT normal! lol (Well, okay, she did say I have those lovely migraine spots on it, but it is otherwise "normal and healthy" -- you should have seen the look on my fourteen-year-old son's face when I told him what she'd said. I think he thought I needed a second opinion!)

Topamax seems to be the popular med. I just started on it in the late spring, but too early to tell it's real magic until winter/early spring when the drastic weather changes. That is when I am dead in the water with these horrid migraines. Wish me luck.

I'm on 100 mg now each nite.

Good luck with yours too.

Welcome to the forum, SN. Smiler

I'm glad you stumbled across us. I already love the sense o' hoomer you've brought along with you. That'll serve you well around these parts. Thanks also for thinking the site is great. Teri gets most of the credit for that one. We've worked hard since January to build it up, and we try to make it (and keep it) great. It's really nice to hear that we're succeeding. Smiler

Kick back and enjoy!
