Hello, I an glad to have found this forum to talk with people who may have a better understanding that migraine is more than just a headache

My journey startd more than a year ago and I am still trying to get the corrct help with this issue. Although I had "headaches" for a lng time this elevated part of the disease has taken over my life in the last 12 months.

I am learning that there are a number of symptoms associated with the disease and that many physicians do not understand it or know how to treat it.

Mine is a long story but after having seen a number of doctors ENT is the one who told me that my problems are directly related to the migraine issues.

I am now trying to find a Neurologist who understands this and will offer the proper treatment. As the one I have been going to is very resistence to the idea that migraine could be the root cause.

Thanks for this forum to learn and share with other the experiences of this sometimes very debilitating disease that needs more attention and understanding from those who do not suffer.

Hi, Timeless, welcome to the forum. We're glad you found us.

If you are looking for another doctor, you might consider a doctor on this list:

Patient Recommended Migraine and Headache Specialists

It sounds as though you already know that not every doctor is effective in treating migraine disease. A migraine/headache specialist spends all of his/her time treating migraines and other headaches.

Migraine and Headache Specialists - What's So Special?

Take a few minutes to look at the Start Here folder at the top of the forum, so that you get the most out of your forum experience. Then, take a look at this article:

• Learning About Migraines and Headaches - Where To Start

Take care of yourself, and keep those questions and experiences coming.

Hello Timeless and welcome to the forum family! We're happy you found us, although sorry you share the need to be here.

Did the doctor tell you what type of Migraines you have? Here's a list you can look at before you go to the Neurologist:

Types of Headaches and Migraines

Getting prepared for your neurologist appointment is very important. You can keep a Migraine Diary to show your doctor. It's a great tool to track triggers, the effectiveness of medications, and any patterns to your Migraines and headaches. Also, here are some articles to help you get the most from your doctor's appointment:

Coping with Busy Doctors

Migraineur's Guide to a Successful Doctor's Appointment

I hope these help. I look forward to seeing you around the forum and hearing about your upcoming appointment. Remember, if you have any questions, just ask Smiler

The problem I am having is that I have been pretty sick for the last 9 months .

I have been to every doctor known to man and had a CT scan, MRI, ultra sounds, primary care doctor, cardiloigist, neuologist, Ent and eye doctor, gartololist.

My ENT is the one who said that he thought all of these issues I was having were due to migraine and he went into great detail to tell me why and what he thought needed to be done to address the issue.

He is the one who put me on a very strict diet to alleviate the food triggers about sic weeks ago and there has been marked improvement sinc i started that diet.

The "headache"part is better but the aura and other symptoms are still there all the time, much less than before but there.

He did a very in depth exam to rule out the issues he could as an ENT. After his exam he spent a great deal of time with both myself and my husband to explain his thought process. Plus his wife suffers from this so he has a baseline to look at ...

He sent me back to the neurologist with his recommendations and thoughts and I saw her yesterday. She was very resistant to his opinion and said she was not sure this could have caused all the problems I have been having as this was not "classic' for migraine.

She did finally agree to give me the preventative medication but dos not even want to see me back for 3 to 4 months.

I have been out of work for 5 months and she basically just said I should be fine now. I have issues with that as I know it takes time for the medication to work and there can be side effects.

When we left my husband said he wants to find another doctor that has a better understanding of this issue and will be a partner in overseeing my issues other than someone who just wants to kind of wash her hands of the issue.

Hi Timeless,

It sounds like the only doctor you haven't been to is the expert who treats Migraine disese. These doctors devote their entire practice treating patients with Migraines and headache disorders, take extra courses in this area, and are on the cutting edge of treatment options. You can think of it like this: When your care breaks down, you take it a mechanic - the expert - not your neighbor who fixes cars as a side job. A neurologist may be a fine doctor, but treats so many different conditions like MS, stroke and Parkinsons, it is difficult for them to be experts in any one area. A Migraine specialist is THE expert you want to see. I know nutcracker gave you the list of patient recommended specialists. You may have to travel a bit to see a good one, but it will be well worth it to be in less pain and have your life back again.
