Hello everyone! I'm Amy. I have suffered from "normal" migraines since I was 14 years old - I"m now 35 years old. I've never taken any meds, I've just bared with them. They were worse when I was younger. The reason I'm on this board now is, I was just diagnosed with retinal migraines in September. I don't get them as frequently as the "normal" migraines, but they scare me a lot more. I also suffer from depression (dx'd when I was 15 years old) and I do take meds for that. Anyway, I look foward to talking with everyone.

Hello Amy and Welcome! Group Hug
I don't really know anything about retinal migraines, but I know ALOT about what you call "normal" migraines. I,too, have had them since about age 14, and am now 34. I was diagnosed almost 10 years ago. I have, at times, been on effective preventative medications, but not right now. The last one quit on me last year. So I spent the first half of the year coming off my old medicine, then thinking I could do it without medication. I was WRONG! So I have spent the second half of the year searching for my new preventative regiment. I am hoping the new one will be it, but it's too early to tell.

There is much to be learned here. I am not smart enough to give you links, but someone who is will come along soon. I do know this is the best place to be for knowledge, support, and understanding. Our fearless leader, Teri, is great and very knowledgeable. As are the moderators, and other members. And we are all in about the same boat, so you will get understanding here that you can't get anywhere else.

Who diagnosed you with retinal migraines? Just wondering if you are seeing your PC or a headache specialist? We have a list of specialist on the site, along with numerous article about medications, supplements, etc...pretty much everything concerning migraine.

I look forward to getting to know you better.
Once again, WELCOME!! Thumbs Up

Welcome, Amy!

I suffer from depression too. I take Effexor for it. I'm on a permanent maintenance dose to keep me depression-free. It's been working well for over 5 years now. Now all I have to depress me are my migraines! Big Grin

(I'm 55, have had severe migraines for over 4 years due to menopause, plus I have fibromyalgia. I take Imitrex plus Anaprox as an abortive and am working with my migraine specialist to find a preventive. I keep a detailed migraine diary and have made significant lifestyle changes to reduce my risk of migraines.)

Hi Amy!

Welcome to the forum! So glad you are here! I found an article on the site on Retinal Migraines. I don't know if you have seen it.

I don't have retinal migraines myself, but you are definitely in a good place for support. Thumbs Up
I have migraine without aura and New Persistant Daily Headache.

So glad you are here! Blinking

Hi Amy! I, too, have had migraines since my early teen years. Hard for me to pinpoint an exact age, as I always thought growing up that my headaches were allergy-related. I wasn't diagnosed with migraine until I was 20. I'm now 24. I've been working to find another treatment regimen that will work for me - Topamax quit on me early this year.

Just want to say welcome to our forum family. Great to see someone else here from NJ - I lived there until I was 18.

Sit back, relax, and take a look around the site. There's tons of great information here! Thumbs Up

Welcome to the family Amy!! Flower

I too have had migraines since I was 15, now 38. I have been trying all sorts of different preventatives since the early '90s. I just have to change them up every so often or my body gets used to them. I just started Keppra a few weeks ago so I am praying it will work. Thumbs Up

I am not a Jersey girl, I am a Long Island girl (or as we say Longuyland) but my Giants play in Jersey so that makes me a partial Jersey girl right? LOL

Anyway, you will love being here just as I do!! Once again, welcome!

Hi Amy,

I wanted to add my welcome to the family too. I am a born and bred Joisey girl. I grew up a Giants fan and even got free drinks when the Giants were in the '86 Superbowl because my BF now husband looks just like Bill Parcels. However, my teenage boys are Jets fans. Go figure...

Welcome again,
Pam

Oooh Laura - I am an EAGLES fan!! (In GA, I know, it's crazy!!)
If I am not mistaken, we are playing each other this coming Sunday!! The Eagles are not doing very well this year, though. I do like to watch the giants sometimes, but not as much since Tiki is gone - he was my fave!
