So, I started 500mg of Keppra today. I was informed by my neuro about the potential of dizziness for about thirty minutes after I took the meds and lasting for a few days.

Well, let me say, it has lasted all day. All I have to do is turn to fast, or get up fast and instant head rush!! I feel like I am on some kind of mini high or something.

Then, to top it off, I am doing the most stupid things. Like, putting boxes in the fridge, milk in the cabinets, starting to make my lemonade only to come back and find that I had totally forgotten about it, have my son make me lunch and forget I asked and then ask again.

I called the pharmacist and he said, no worries, just take it easy for a few days and it will pass. He said if it gets any worse or any additional side effects pop up to head over to my favorite place, the ER. (Man, I wish I had a dollar for every back space on my posts right now!)

Anyone else go through this the first few days? Thanx

Forgot to add, woke up with a migraine too...took two Maxalts with no luck but forced myself to go foodshopping and just came back from walking the dogs in the cold night air.

(I love the cooler weather, okay, at least right now I do, it may change in a few days LOL)

LauraM,

I just tried Keppra briefly and also had very strong sedating effect. I took it at night and I was out like a light. I didn't feel groggy the next day though, but I was on a very low dose. I had to come of it due to the severe constipation (fecal impaction), so be sure to drink plenty of water and get enough fiber and exercise.

These side effects do usually pass in a couple days. Also, it's way to soon to see any benefit from it. You have to be on it a couple months before you know if it's working. At least that's my understanding.

Giants at Detroit tomorrow! (BTW, my DH thinks your son must have been brainwashed by a cult. He recommends deprogramming ASAP!)

Just a note on Keppra. I've been on it on two seperate occasions now, the second time for almost a year, with varying side effects. Of course, everyone will experience different side effects and some fortunate people won't experience any. When I started, I was always dizzy and nauseous for a week or so; the same thing would happen if my dosage was increased. Those side effects would go away. My standard steady dose was either 250 or 500 mg bid.

The Keppra helped both my migraines and daily persistent headaches, but I stopped it because I experienced severe depression on the drug. While we all know that having these headaches is enough to make us prone to depression, mine went away after discontinuing the drug. The psychiatrist at Jefferson Headache Center was the one who took me off of it because he's had a lot of headache patients experience the same thing. Of course, many won't, so it's still a good drug to try. I just wanted people to be aware in case they see a change in mood - make sure to talk that over with your doctor.

I'm glad I decided to read through this again today - I personally don't take Keppra but my Aunt does for seizures and I was wondering a bit about it.

I sent over our links we have here to my mom so she knows a bit about it too, but its always nice to hear real life side effects (well, not "nice" but you know what I mean) I didn't realize that Keppra could get you that dizzy! That explains a lot with my aunt!

I also wonder now what time she takes it at night, I think she takes it twice a day. I know she tends to sleepwalk sometimes and I wonder if she does the "weird things" as she says because she is dizzy from the Keppra.

Glad to hear you are doing better on it now Laura!!!!!

Thanks Eileen! Yes, Keppra threw me literally for a loop when I first began it but my body has adjusted well. I had a migraine yesterday and thought for sure it was going to be a killer but, with much needed relaxation I was able to keep it to a subtle roar. I wonder if the Keppra is beginning to work?

Wouldn't that be wonderful??

I hope you Aunt gets better with the Keppra. My mom has seizures too and for awhile we were both on the same meds. Hers for seizures and mine for migraines. It was either Tegratol or Dilantin...been so long I can't remember which.

Eileen, yep, looks like you guys are gonna get hit sooner than we are. Can you say snow? I read on FoxNews that JFK and Kennedy are allowing people to reschedule their flights already in order to avoid people getting stranded and that schools are already announcing closings.....all my best to you and hope you are pain free Thumbs Up
