Ok girls/guys I finally started a thread on here about football.

As you may already know I am an avid NY Giants fan (just look at my logo pic).

I have been posting with Sherry and Momsbreak9 in another forum and kinda hijacked it with sports so I figured I would start one here.

So, I will begin by saying first: GO GIANTS

Then follow up with a good luck to everyone else's team (except Philly for today) sorry guys but I am already the underdog by -3 which is the gimme for a home game...so it is going to be a close one.

Question: Do you guys answer the phone during a game? I never do anymore...anyone who knows me, knows better. It is superstition, just like when the GMen actually pull off a win, I wear the same outfit (don't worry, it is washed) that I wore before. Everything from jerseys for the O & the D; jewelry and yes, the underwear LOL.

Good luck today!!! (Except Philly) Big Wink

In Mississippi, football is a ritual, not just a sport. The high school football finals were this weekend, at the big stadium in Jackson. There were 9,000 people at the 1-A finals. One of the schools has 87 students. Public television broadcast all 5 of the games.

College football is even bigger. Big traditions about tailgating in the Grove at Ole Miss. I went to Alabama during the Bear Bryant era. Roll Tide! Two national championships in the 4 years I was there. We wore dresses and hose and heels to ball games.

The same at Ole Miss in Law School around 1980. Actually, DH and I (BF in the beginning) only went to one game. My parents came up to tailgate -- my sister was at Ole Miss, too. We'd eat with them before the game, drink a glass of wine, and go study during the game. Then eat more after the game, drink another glass of wine, and take home the leftovers. My mom had special red and blue tablecloths for the picnic tables they brought, and my sister and I made her a perfectly horrible centerpiece out of plastic flowers and little Colonel Rebel stickers. We made it nasty on purpose, and she proudly used it at every game.

Pro ball isn't as big. We've kind of adopted the Saints, since they're so close. And they've been doing fall training at one of the local colleges since Katina.

I understand having rituals about clothes. I never wore the same outfit twice to a law school exam. Of course, never wear the outfit in the classes with a disappointing grade, but I don't remember why I didn't wear the successful outfits again. I did wear my college honor society key to every exam, to remind me that at one time, somebody thought I was smart.

I hope your guys did well!

Gretchen

Hi Gretchen! Allow me to get this out of the way....hooray!! We beat the Eagles. K, out my system for the moment at least Wink

I understand high school and college being so huge! We lived in Shreveport, Louisiana for many years and I learned that very quickly. Not only is it home of the beloved I-Bowl (Independence Bowl) but home of LSU Tiger fans, Airline HS and Parkway HS. Huge for producing college football players. Along with Evangel HS, they are the "big" time players!

Have you ever heard of the Booty brothers? Josh Booty went to Evangel Christian Academy in Shreveport, LA. Booty was named to the All-Time National High School All-American team by Dick Butkus along with Joe Namath and John Elway. Impressive huh?

Who knew? Not me until I lived there....it was a safe place for the kids to hang out and be encouraged.

Congrats to you, Laura!! Of course I wasn't too happy for my team to lose, but I was not surprised - the way they have been playing. I didn't get to watch it. It wasn't on here and we couldn't afford to get the Sunday ticket this year, with me not working. Did you see Michael Strahan on the Fox before show? He was funny.

Sure thing, I guess I should have started it sooner?! DH loves the Steelers so he was pretty bummed out.

Good news is, Directv came out and made to where my locals are now on my big screen so even when they aren't on the ticket I can watch them LARGE!!

Yeah - that's what the Eagles keep doing - ALMOST winning. Well, almmost doesn't count. They have had a terrible year. Of course I want them to beat Dallas, becasue I can't stand Dallas (mainly T.O.) but I don't think they can. And you have Washington next week, so I will be rooting for the Giants. I also have to watch and root for the 49ers - that's hubby's team. My other fave to watch is Green Bay. I just love Brett Farve.

I LOVE Brett Farve, too. He just has so much love for the game, like a kid playing his first game, ya know? I can't agree with you about Chipper, though. I used to like him, but he has gotten way too arrogant the past few years. I am a HUGE Braves fan, though, since I am from Atlanta!! Glavine has always been my favorite player and he is coming back home to the Braves after 5 years with the Mets, so I am really happy about that. I love that there are others here that I can talk Sports with!! My DH loves football, but hates baseball, so he doesn't talk baseball with me!!

I was rooting for the Falcons, too, since they are my hometown team. I have not liked them for so long - I never liked Vick, even before all the trouble. They are really screwed now, with Petrino quitting on them like that. I guess they will just have to rebuild for next year, huh?

Thanks for the "sports chat"!!

Hey Laura,

I just thought you may want to know that Michael Strahan is going to be on "The Best D##M Sports Show Period" tonight on FSS at 9pm. It replays at 11pm and 12:30 am, in case you miss the first one!

Yeah, as much as I can't stand the Eagles and Dallas (Washington hasn't been much of a threat over the years LOL, miss the Cardinals though, hello easy win back in the day). I have to admit, Dallas does need to be put in their place.

T.O. (totally overated; totally obnoxious; etc) bothers me but he somehow has toned it down some. It still amazes me that they even picked him up after he slammed the ball on their star after a TD...disrespectful..just like he did to us when he hid a phone in the pylon pads....k, getting worked up.

So, I guess I am rooting for the Eagles (please don't tell anyone!) Embarrassed

Sherry,
I havent watched too much of the braves games the last couple years, Mariners are my #1 team, but I catch a game or 2 here and there. So I dont follow them as close anymore. they kept getting rid of all the good players! I am SO glad they are bringing back Glavine! wa hooo! But I just always thought Chipper looked GREAT in that baseball uniform LOL Embarrassed

Wa hooo sounds like We ALL rootin for the Eagles this game! Good Luck
we wont tell your family Laura! Angel

LOL, it's okay....my son is a Cowboys fan so I guess it will make for an interesting game. I just can't stand that I am rooting for a team that keeps stopping me from going to the big one year after year. (Except this year Razzer)

Man, I missed you post by mere minutes. So, therefore I missed Michael. What kind of Michael fan am I? My license plates say NYGFAN92 and I don't even watch his interview Head Banging

Wonder if they will play it again. Either that or I will search the net for it.

I hope we can win this week, if not, I will be pretty grumpy Monday morning, not to mention tired! Plus, the snow will be a factor too, at least it will be a fun game!!!!
