I just read of Sol's loss of her friend from migrainous stroke. I am awful shaken by it, cause I just got back from the hospital myself with a 3 .5 day migraine and the doc told me i was faking it to get pain killers. Lucky I stood up to that miserable little *beeeeppppp* I shiver to think o what woulda happened if I didnt you know? Its bad enough when we're in pain but when our lives are literally in danger and the doctors refuse to acknowledge it, it becomes a different story entirely doesnt it?
Tears are flowing freely tonight because of this senseless death, just another reminder that migraine is a dangerous disease. God bless all the ones who've died from this and I for one am doing my part to make sure no migraineur's death is in vain*vein? i cant spell that!* by making sure people are educated about this. God I am literally trembling and crying. this is hitting way too hard

Good for you for standing your ground with that twit doctor. I'm sorry you ended up in that position, but I can hope that some of what you said to him sunk in a little, and that you left him better educated than before he met you.

It is indeed "vain". You spelled it just right. Smiler

Hey droolie,
thanks for replying. Hubby didnt know about what happened at yesterday's ER visit till yesterday night. I wasn't gonna bother him at work. But when I heard about the death of "one of us" I called him on the phone, blubbering about death from a migraine. He knew enough to come over. He stayed for half an hour, comforting me and sharing my anger about the doctors and their so called right to tell you they're not gonna treat you cause you're a drug seeker. It really left him shaken. It's always been one of his fears to "lose his little bim" as he says, so he has instructed me to add his sympathies to solly for her loss and for any husband/partner that is so lost right now and who doesnt have anyone to hold at night anymore. He's a sensitive type, almost as bad as I am with that stuff. LOL. And thanks for telling me I spelled "vain" right. English is my second language*french is my first* and although my english is great for the most part there are still words that i'm unsure of.
Ok enough of me, let's talk about you. are you migraine free today? I hope so! do take care, you mean alot to all of us!
lots of "bimmy angel hugs" *as hubby calls them*

Hi Mrs C

Total sympathy with you here. Good for telling the ER oik whatfor. An achievement when you must have been in real pain and suffering. Your English is really good BTW.

It was reading about Sol's friend's death (and someone else's, dispassionately reported in the medical literature) that made me see flaming red about the 'information for post graduate medics' that I found later. See my thread 'GOT ROPE?' in Vents and Gripes.

No wonder people are still dying of migraine. It's scandalous. I'm truly sad and angry about this.

I hope you're feeling better today?

Hi sammy
Thank you. I did read your post "got rope?" and by the title was worried you wanted to hang yourself. Shows you how i think when I have a mig doesnt it!? I'm still greatly saddened by this loss. Can't help thinking that with my complicated migraine history I could be next. I made my husband take down teri's email and phone number and let her know, so she could tell all of you, if anything really terrible happens to me. My migraine is gone, but my anger is not, nor is my fear of migraines killing me. It is a very real danger. Scares the crap out of my husband and me of course! Thanks for saying my english is really good. I've worked hard on it.

hugs

Hi mrscolt,
good for you for sticking up for yourself with that er doc. I don't know how to do that. The docs in this country just don't take migraine as seriously.
I am on day 11 of my mig now. I have been calling my neurologist repeatedly, because the er dacs just wouldn't take me seriously, amd my regular doc told me there was nothing they could do. Finally got a hold of the neurologist today, who told me it has gone on too long to do anything about it now, so I now have to ride it out, and try not to take pain killers if I can help it.
She also told me that yes, there is a tiny risk of stroke with it having gone on so long, but there's no point worrying about it, because the anxiety will only make it worse.
Doctors, eh?

Mrscolt- have you ever gotten a written treatment plan from your specialist? If you can get something in writing on how you should be treated then if those goofy docs have questions they have something in writing and they can see what your doctor recommends and can call your specialist if they think there is a drug issue. It is so not fair that you were treated that way.

Hi Heidi,
about the written treatment plan, I wish! You see I am in one of the most pathetic places in the world for healthcare. Ontario canada. My so called neurologist didnt even technically tell me my diagnosis, I had to sneak a look at my chart when he went to pee. Thats the only way I know that I had migraine related seizures and that my official diagnoses are hemiplegic migraines and migralepsy. He even told me I could still take triptans. I asked him the last time "Doctor, since i appear to have symptoms of hemiplegic migraines, I should get rid of my triptans, yes?" and he said "no, why would you?" I didnt even answer that! So something as professional as a treatment plan would be way too much to ask for. Mad Honestly , right now, I am to the point where I will have to find a real specialist before these migs kill me! It apparently won't be in canada. I am seriously considering traveling all the way to DR Young in pennsylvania(teri's doc). I am sick of the unprofessionalism in Canada's so called medical system. sorry to have griped Razzer

hugs
bim

Thanks Saz
I have to apologize. for some stupid reason I missed your last reply to me. 11 days!? A "tiny" risk of stroke? "untreatable this late?" grrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Bunch of fools! Why is it such a common experience for migraineurs to know more than their "doctors"? Its very disheartening. At the moment my head is pounding. Another mig hit yesterday night. Don't know if it will ever end!

gentle virtual hugs to you too :-)

bim
