Migraine

OK, the revised IDEA is much more specific about meeting the needs of children with disabilities. Migraines count as Other Health Impairments. Any school receiving federal money will lose that money if they fail to meet the needs of any Special Needs child.

So, I hearilt encourage AndrewsMom and MigraineMom (JeanAnn and ??? - I'm sorry, I'm awful withy names! OH! I remember! Yvonne) - Y'all - get those 504s in place NOW! PLEASE!

BTW, I have my job full-time! I'm working with 2 teachers. Beth Smith will be teaching math and language arts in the mornings and Keary Wells will be teaching social studies and science in the afternoons.

We'll have mostly 8th graders, with 1 7th grader and 1 6th grader (both are mornings only, & the 7th grader is our only girl.) All are LD or OHI.

I fully intend on getting the 504 plan in place before school starts. The psychologist is supposed to get with me this summer to do it. I emailed her last week and left her a voice mail this week.

I spoke with her in June and she was all for it. I don't forsee any problems. I do know who my advocate is should I need her.

Is this a new job for you? I'm not sure what LD or OHI is?

Thanks for the update.

I'm working on it. I have a lawyer friend that has been sending me info.

I have a call in to Chuckie's school board. Waiting on a return call.

I have a telephone interview next Wednesday with the Alabama Disabilites Advocacy Program. I'm hoping to make a lot of progress with them.

So far, Chuckie is doing well at school. They started back on August 2nd. He's had several migraines with a pain level of 4-5 but, no beasties at 8-9.

I'm worried that it is time for a bad one. It's been since June when he had one for 11 days.

He has been showing some signs-irritability and excessive urination.

Yesterday, a girl in his class lost her father in the war in Iraq. He is really upset for her. Life can be so cruel. I lost my father when I was 7 so, I know what this little girl is going through. Please keep Vicky and her family in your thoughts and prayers.
