This is my first time here.

I was wondering if anyone here is in the Lexington, KY area. I need to find a lawyer who can help me.

I have been off work almost 2 yrs. I lost my job because of the beast. I always saved my vac time for the migraines. My employer implemented a new policy. One must prearrange to be sick.

I am single and have exhausted my 401K funds, cashed in life insurance. I am now broke and have no where to turn. I don't know what to do about my bills, meds etc.

I have previously applied for disablity on my own and was denied. I too am suffering from the mental effects that the BEAST can cause as well as no $$$$$$$$$, people not understanding migraines and the Topamax Syndrome. I feel so stupid and frustrated.

I have had migraines since I've been in this world. 42 years. I get no relief. They are now daily. If I am lucky I have a few minutes every once in awhile that I don't hurt but still feel hungover.

I don't know how to know if a lawyer is good or experienced in this area of migraine disability.

Thank you in advance for any help you can give.

Hello HAML! I'm glad you found the forum, but so sorry for what you're going through. I'm afraid I don't know anything about attorneys in Kentucky, so I can't help you there. Someone else might know something. Could you interview some attorneys over the phone, and ask them if they've handled other migraine disability cases?

Anyway, what I can do is welcome you to the forum, and assure you that we understand migraine pain. Take care of yourself.

Hello HAML. I'm so sorry for what you're going through.

I'm in KY and don't know anything about attorneys, but I do have a friend who works for a law firm. I'll email her now and see if she can make a recommendation.

And before I forget, welcome to the forum! The folks here are FANTASTIC!

Also, you could contact the Legal Aid Society to see if they could help you. They provide legal services on a sliding scale based on your income. I used their services several years ago and they did not charge me anything.

Their phone number is 502-584-1254 and their website is www.laslou.org.

Welcome to MyMigraineConnection hurting!

I'm sorry to hear about your denial and job loss. That just isn't right.

I was denied the first time too, and am currently in the appeals process. I was told 18-24 months, but that is here in NYS.

Here is some information on SSDI and SSI I hope you find helpful. I don't know much about the legal end of things in KY.

Welcome to the forum. I am sorry for the reason you came here, but believe me, if anyone understand all th stuff that goes along with living with migraines, it is the people here. Group Hug

I am not in Kentucky, but I have been looking at the Binder & Binder website. I think they are all over the U.S. I am in the process of applying, too, and am thinking of hiring these guys. I am still doing some research, though. But Nutcracker's idea sounds good - call some up and talk to them. I am so sorry you are going through this, I know how hard it is losing your job becasue of the BEAST. I was fired 3 months ago for missing too many days, even after my boss said he understood and would work with me. You may be able to find some sites online where people rate attorneys. I know I have found a few of those about doctors.

Good luck and keep us posted.
I hope you will stick around and join us more!

I know next to nothing on the disability angle, and know absolutely nothing about lawyers and procedures in Kentucky.

But I do understand your being frustrated with your situation. It is overwhelming to deal with the fallout of daily migraine, not only from the disease itself, but from the meds we take to try and tame it, too. Please don't feel stupid, though, because you're not at all.

I also know that you're very welcome here, and we're quite happy to support you the best we can and provide all the info we can dig up. I see Nancy gave you the SSDI And SSI links, and I see Lisa gave you some ideas and contact info, too. Hopefully that will give you a good jump start.

We're rooting for you!

My friend said that since you're in Lexington, you may want to contact the attorney referral service in that area. The Fayette County Referral service's phone number is 859-225-8644.

Best of luck!

I'm hoping that you want the brutal truth, so here ya go.

I have lived in KY all my life (I'm 47) and had FHM since 1987. I also have had 4 minor heart attacks and have been put on disability from my FEDERAL job - usually very hard to do - and am NOT eligible for SSDI. Been through the lawyer thing, even used Binder & Binder, if they don't win, you don't have to pay them, so they bust their buns.

I wish you the very best of luck. Fingers Crossed
